The candidates are: - Lasalle
- Golitsyn
- Suvorov
- Murat
- Nelson
- Oudinot/Dobeln
Lasalle: 5 star Cav/Mov, nothing more to train. Golitsyn: 5 star Cav, 3 star Mov. Non-IAP, costs 955 medals. Suvorov: 5 star Inf/Tra. His movement is kinda low but you can add up to +4 movement points with items. Murat: 5 star Cav, 3 star Mov. A fort-cracker. Nelson: 5 star Nav, 3 star Art and 4 star Mov. His stats are pretty usable even without training. Oudinot/Dobeln: 5 star Inf, Bugle. Oudinot has 3 training stars, Dobeln has mass fire. 950/870 medals. I don't see much merit in these two. TBH, the most ideal would be Lasalle, but for f2p ofc it's Golitsyn.

I personally finished my F2P squad with Victoria. A great infantry general and admiral. I personally weigh infantry above second cavalry for F2P due to the starting units in campaigns. In some cases you won't start off with 2 cavalry units.

What's the point behind Sakurako? What are you going to deploy her on mainly? Sakurako is great for her versiatility combined with good movement - as Hybrid she can be used for any land-unit, so I'm not limited to any certain lineup during the campaign. I just throw her on the fourth best unit, regardless what it is - she does the job, and she never dissappointed me. If you want a specialist, Victoria and Isabella (if not deployed before) are great canidates for a last slot too.

American and British non-naval campaigns only. Also, who is the last general, besides Lan, Isabela, and Sakurako?

I do see where your point is about infantry generals: there often tends to be good infantry units obviously for our generals. (like those triple guards and double machine guns) I just tend to use Isabela on heavy art, Lan on best cav, and Sophia for whatever good unit (like the machine gun) as she's got 5 stars on all fields for me. I'm gonna deduce that Trotsky is gonna just deploy his 3rd/4th generals by building it on his own, not given.

We might be better off with someone like Victoria.

TBH, the most ideal would be Lasalle, but for f2p ofc it's Golitsyn. My first impulse is to ask what you need the most - infantry, cavalry, or warship with second-string artillery. In my opinion, the answer to this question is heavily dependent on what you already have. And that may be very different for different players. THEN, and ONLY then, do we get onto the question of whether you are prepared to pay IRL money to get them. Naturally, one is obliged to recognize that whoever permanently fills that last slot has to be very capable "out of the box".

Also feels like it depends on how many slots you have - MacBook version starts with 12, for example.
Currently I have Sophia, Ushakov, Golitsyn, Sulkowski, Kate, Sakurako, Isabella, and Wellesley, as an example. Assuming I also get Lan and Victoria I have two slots left and no clue to fill them with, as my normal campaign setup is set even without Lan and Victoria. Maybe a navy gen like Collingwood? Backup arty like Scharny? New cav gen like Ney (or Berthier if I wanna go that route and use the the 12th slot for trainers for him). - No clue at all
