Hi guys i think bronze generals are very useful in early game since not many excess of good gold generals to buy, and bronze are cheap only costing coins and silver general cost medals. but i think bronze generals should be not used anymore by komnenos dynasty (chapter 8) and best case scenario maybe by viking/macedonian dynasty (chapter 5 and 6) since there are many good general to be used. So here are some bronze general is worth the money to use. free generals not included sorry
Not buy - Bad skill
Not worth to buy - Okay skill
Can buy but not the best - Kind of good skill
Should buy - Good skill
Always buy - Very good skill
Chapter 1 - Last of the Romans
Fausta is a general you should not buy. Her stats are ok but much wasted on administration, you probably will not use her as consul since there is Sophia and Justinian. Poisoning 1 is decent active ability but her other abilities are poor Leadership 1 is bad skill and probably will make not much impact on your campaign. Intelligence Expert is poor also, as enemy will usually use Interception (the ability Intelligence Expert blocks) on another troop, so she is not worth the coins.
Gunderic has ok stats (11 infantry) but is very redeemed by his abilities. Active ability Poisoning 2 which reduces the cooldown. However he is also very useful because he has both Melee Infantry Expert (MIE) 2 and Master Swordsman 2 which makes him strong in damage. Like most bronze generals you should not upgrade him past skill 3, and his 4th skill Irritability is not worth the heraldry to spend on him. You unlock Aetius and Belisarius, both infantry that can make him less important. But in the end he is a good purchase and can be useful as a secondary general for a while.
Theodoric I has decent stats (15 inf/cav), Defense Infantry Expert (DIE) 2 and Cavalry Tactician 1. so can capture city with active ability Forced March 2 quickly maybe using fast cavalry unit, then hire defense infantry to defend. His stats mean he also can deal good damage. However better generals unlocked like Aetius and Sunicas make his use not as important.
Stilicho can be useful for the first 2 (maybe even 3rd) campaign, but is not very useful afterward. His stats are good (15 infantry, 19 archer), meaning strong infantry in front of archer. His active skill is strong, Fatal Blow 1 that deals more damage, but long cooldown time means you will probably use it only two times a mission. Ranged Tactician 1 is strong, combined with Master Skirmisher 1 allowing powerful ranged attack using projectile like javelin. However Lupicinus (a little worse version of Stilicho) is unlocked for free after completion of the first mission, making Stilicho only costly upgrade. Master Skirmisher is useless after Chapter 2 when archers become most common place. In the end Stilicho's usefulness does not last long but can buy if you want better Lupicinus.
Adil I has good stats (17 inf, 12 cav), like Gunderic kind of. His active ability is Medical Mastery 2, long cooldown though makes the ability not as effective. He also has MIE2 and Melee Cavalry Expert (MCE) 1 which makes him a hybrid but not very good hybrid. His 4th skill is Master Learner 2 and probably shouldn't waste your heraldry for it. Overall okay, can buy if you want a heal sometimes but probably will not have much time in your team before being replaced.
Chapter 2 - Rise of Byzantium
Sophronius is bad stats but leaning slightly for archers. His active ability is Medical Mastery 1 which has a long cooldown, probably will be used only 2 or 3 times a mission. His ability Master Learner 2 is good but Discipline is bad as AI troop probably will use ability on random things anyway, waste of skill slot. Overall bad, don't buy.
Sunicas is strong general with good stats (21 cavalry). His active ability Interception 2 is a very strong ability, lets you clear the mobility of enemy. He also has Cavalry Tactician 1 and Master Swordsman 1 so he is a melee cavalry general. He will be useful secondary cavalry general even after buying of Khalid, Lancelot, Alfred, etc. and will probably be in your team for a while.
Antonina is meant for conquest, with Mobilization Expert, Lobbyist 1, and GoodWill Ambassador. However Lobbyist and GWA shouldn't be unlocked since cost too much heraldry. Her stats and abilities are bad, but better conquest consuls exist (Justinian I, Sophia (who is for free from logging in bonus), Eleanor of Aquitane) which make her very useless. Her other skill Rapid March is good but no synergy for her conquest. Overall terrible and don't buy.
Theodora is AT HER BEST WITH JUSTINIAN, because she has bond that gives extra resources when deploy with him. Elsewise she is not as good. She is a better Antonina but also isn't very useful since there are way better consuls, especially since she is only good with Justinian who is also meant for conquest. Otherwise, her Calmness 1 active ability resets skill cooldown, good synergy with other generals active abilities.
Sittas has bad stats (11 infantry capability) but has the good Infantry Tactician 1 which is a little redeeming, and unlocks Leadership 2. His active ability Shackle 1 is very bad and probably will not even affect their attack. He will probably not have long time in your team since you already would have good gold generals like Belisarius and Aetius. Also bronze generals like Dihya, Jasper Tudor, and Gunderic are way better, so in the end probably not worth the purchase.
Trithyrius has good stats that mostly are infantry (19), coupled with his active Rage 2 and Infantry Tactician 2 makes for a little bit hard hitting general. For some reason he has Cavalry Tactician 1, which zero synergy with his 4 cavalry capability when you buy him. Probably won't last in your team long, but a little strong.
Totila has decent stats (16 infantry). His active Outburst 3 is very strong activating the charge for all units, and has Master Commander 1 and the strong Plains Commander. Overall good general.
Gelimer has good stats (14 infantry, 15 archer) that mean he can have strong infantry in front of the archers. His active ability Pathfinder 1 could be better on higher level but has long cooldown. He has Ranged Tactician 1 and Master Skirmisher 1, making him strong on especially projectiles. Javelineer and other ranged projectile unit stop being useful though when archers appear, making him worse and not much time to be a star. Overall not worth.
Chapter 3 - Establishment of the Kingdom
Dihya has good stats (23 infantry) that makes her fairly strong. Her active ability Concentrated Defence 2 is good, and she leans toward defense infantry because of her Infantry Tactician 1. Overall good defense and offense, should buy.
Khawlah has good stats (21 cavalry, 16 archer), but weak skills. Her active ability Equipment Destruction 2 removes small part of enemy mobility, probably not enough to make impact. She also has Master Commander 1 and Desert Commander, latter useful for Chapter 4 Border Crisis but not of much use after. Maybe buy for Border Crisis but could avoid and make no difference.
Suleiman Baltoghlu has mixed stats (12 cav/inf, 18 archer). His active Espionage 3 is bad and not much impact from it. He is mostly a naval general, with Navigator 3 and Leadership 2. If you want naval general get him, if not skip.
Zubayr has bad stats (14 infantry). His active Espionage 2 is bad and not much impact from it. Siege Master 1 and Infantry Tactician 1 are decent skill and gives him a little appeal. For some reason he also has Charging Cavalry Expert (CCE) 1 which isn't very good and no reason to be on him. Bad general, don't buy him.
Leo III has bad stats (13 infantry), his active ability is okay Engineering 2. He also has Master Learner 1 and DIE2, overall okay defense infantry general and good garrison defender general. A little worse since Aetius is already defense infantry.
Chapter 4 - Border Crisis
Michael the Stammerer has above average stats (19 infantry). His ability Armor Piercing 2 is good which makes the enemy weak, and has DIE2. Like Leo III but offensive. Pretty okay but can be easily skipped. A little worse since Aetius is already defense infantry.
Shurahbil has not very good stats (15 archer, 11 infantry). His active Euphoria 1 raises morale which is good. He also has Master Shooter 1 and Mountain Commander. Overall okay because not many archer generals early game.
Thomas Stanley has strong stats (25 cavalry, 20 infantry) and he can be either kind of general. Plunder 2 (loots coins) is okay but long cooldown, he also has Master Commander 2 and Master Learner 2. If you want you can upgrade him and get Tactic Master which is good. Would be better if there weren't many gold cavalry generals to choose from like Lancelot, Roland, Khalid, later Alfred and others too.
Jasper Tudor probably one of the best bronze infantry general. Detain 3 is a good active ability that helps recover lots of health. He also has Infantry Tactician 2 and Isolated Force 1, combined with his active can at least last some rounds without being near ally unit. His stats are also strong (27 infantry). Overall great, even if not much time in the main general (probably leaves around Chapter 6 when Basil and Harold Hardrada appear).
Chapter 5 - Viking Invasion
Robert Curthose has kind of good stats (16 infantry, 19 archer) meaning he can have somewhat decent infantry in front of the archers. His ability is very strong, Fatal Blow 2 dealing 20% more damage. Combined with his Infantry Tactician 1 and Ranged Tactician 2, he can be very strong general. Would be 'always buy' if he was earlier in game or better stats. Only in 'should buy' because most good gold archer generals come later in the Komnenos Dynasty (Chapter 8).
Athelred has okay stats (16 infantry). He has Outburst 1 which is good but not synergy with his DIE1. since defense infantry can't charge (correct if I were wrong thanks). He also has Navigator 1. Not a really needed general and can be skipped easily, since Baltoghlu is a naval general and many better defense infantry generals already exist, and melee infantry too.
Leo VI the Wise is a very bad hybrid (13 infantry, 16 cavalry) but a little redeemed by his active skill Master Arsonist 1, which can be useful for some missions. He has MIE2 and CCE1 which kind of balances the slight cavalry advantage in capability. Overall useless since better melee infantry and cavalry exist, and especially because soon many great gold generals (Alexios, Harold Hardrada, Basil II, Cnut, Alexander Nevsky, John Tzimiskes) are about to come and take over your team.
Chapter 6+ - After Viking Invasion
By this point many gold generals are good are unlocked, cavalry (Tzimiskes, Alfred the Great, Khalid, Alexander Nevsky, Alexios), infantry generals (Basil II and Harold Hardrada, Cnut), and archer (El Cid, Nurdin, Manuel I). Because of this bronze generals mostly will become in the basement and no longer be used except conquest. I decide to cut the remaining few bronze generals and talk only about ones I thought could be bought.
Tostig (CHAPTER 6) has poor stats (17 infantry), but he has Disturbance 3 which lowers enemy morale by a lot. He also has Navigator 2 and MIE1. Would probably be a 'Should Buy' if he was even two chapters earlier, but too many gold infantry generals now. Don't use if you have many gold infantry generals, but if no medals can buy.
Vortimer (CHAPTER 7) has poo stats (15 infantry), but he is a good defense infantry general with DIE3 and Euphoria 1 which raises morale. As result he can be cheap garrison defense against opponent, also has Forest Commander.
Andronikos II (CHAPTER 8) has poor stats (14 infantry), but he can strong counterattack with Formation 1, also he has Master Swordsman 1 and MIE2. This at least makes him a little strong melee infantry. Don't use if you have the gold infantry generals but he is still okay.
William Iron Arm (CHAPTER 8) has poor stats (19 infantry). However he has Outburst 2 which is good because he is a melee infantry general that can charge, he has MIE2. He also has Navigator 2 which makes him okay naval general, but Cnut and Harold Hardrada already way better.
Guy of Lusignan (CHAPTER 9) has poor stats (16 cavalry) and is a cavalry general where most gold generals are cavalry generals. But he has Garrison Swap 2 as well as MCE1 and Master Swordsman 2, making him good meatshield for low health ally.
Sorry this weren't that good of guide but I think bronze generals very good for beginning of game but still don't spam and buy all of the generals because you can always buy items and other things from shop. I hope this guide is good for you thanks 🙏
