Hello. In this thread, I would like to discuss the viability of IAP. I think the following are in the top three: Excellence Medal, Battle Pass and Wittmann. - Top 1, Excellence Medal: Every Artillery General can now be a Panzer General (with Firepower/Rocket Artillery as Blitzkrieg). Infantry and Navy Generals can wipe out fortresses easily.
- Top 2, Battle Pass: I do not know which of Battle Pass and Wittmann can be the Top 2, but I think Battle Pass is more valuable since it saves you weeks of farming for medals.
- Top 3, Wittmann: Guderian used to be the greatest Panzer General but with Wittmann's Ace Tank he becomes greater. He also comes with 1500 medals which could be used on upgrading him.
The following IAPs are in not order but I will discuss them whether they are worth buying or not: - Manstein: Viable. Now that Plain Fighting and Tide of Iron can be replaced with 2 of Inspiring, Rumor or Explosives depending on your pre-existing Panzer Generals. He comes with a perk, +1 general in Frontier but this is very situational as deploying units from cities is too expensive.
- Zhukov: Viable. Either replace his Artillery Barrage and Crossfire with Plain Fighting and Rumor to become Super-Leeb; or with Raider and Infantry Leader to become Super-Konev (less recommended setup). His perk, +1 general in Scenario is very useful.
- Eisenhower: Not viable. In terms of Navy you have Donitz, Raeder and Horton which can already have Fleet Leader, Rumor and Explosives. In terms of Air Force you have Arnold who is great as a support, and Dowding as an economic general. Do you want to have that many navy and air generals? His perk +1 general in conquest is good though but not good enough.
- Marshall: (?) I am a bit conflicted about him. He have Infantry Group Charge which can be great for supporting an Infantry General with Explosives, say Yamashita or McArthur. He also have Guerilla Master which is a Plunder skill and along with Organisation, makes him a good Supporting/Defensive Infantry General. But he might be too expensive for his price, but otherwise I think he can be side-on-side with Yamashita and McArthur on frontier and attack fortresses together. His perk +4 general slots (means +3 slots for other generals) could be nice on Warzone.
- Katukov: Not viable. The WC3 Hoth. You have to spend medals just to make him as strong as Rommel with Blitzkrieg. He is good neither on Infantry nor on Panzers. But could be good as a starting general.
- Artillery Legend and Panzer Elite: Viable. Nuff said, but not as good as Excellence Medal.
- Simo Hayha: Not viable. Dies too easily against Panzers and Artilleries. If his Ace Sniper is as good as GOG3 Ace Sniper he might be better.
- Yeryomenko/Tolbukhin: Viable. Yeryomenko is a Super-Nenonen that is good especially on 12 medal Auto-Invasions with Rumor Generals or 1980 Terrorist Generals. due to his "Hold Fast" skill. Tolbukhin... his lack of Blitzkrieg might hurt him but he could be a good Panzer support due to his skill Armored Army Group. Plain Fighting and Inspiration could make him hit hard.
- Kluge: Viable. A super Zhukov, he also has "Hold Fast" skill. Artillery Tactic Expert makes him also the best Artillery General.
- Spatz/Eichelberger: (?) I am also conflicted on this. Spatz has a great skill which could ignore some of the air defenses. Eichelberger... lacks explosives, but hey at least he could support others, right? But him lacking the 5th star hurts him so much.
- McCampbell: Viable. Ace Pilot ignores defense 100% at lvl 5.
- Williams: (?) Self-propelled Artillery but the lack of Artillery Leader and 6th star make him a somewhat mid panzer general. He has Artillery Armor which could help him survive though. But there is Kluge.
- Coulson: Viable. A great Air Force General for sweeping out a doomed enemy in Conquests. Useful for situations where budget is tight.
Help me on ranking these IAPs and finding the prices of some (at least in US Dollars)

The medal bonus is nice but manstein clears with his mobility and switchable skillset. Ace tank also only works well against infantry or artillery which tank gens already have an easy time one shotting them

Since Wittmann is cheaper and already strong with nice medal reward he looks more attractive than Manstein for players with limited budget, especially those with weak currency against dollars.

Ace tank also only works well against infantry or artillery which tank gens already have an easy time one shotting them Ace tank only has a noticeable difference when fighting high defense units like titan and missile cruiser which Manstein can close that damage gap pretty well by running inspiring + plain. TOI is a mediocre skill not a bad skill. As IAP, I would gladly take Kluge and Tolbukhin/Yeryomenko before Wittmann. Also to reference first post, McCampbell is anything but viable. He shines best on carrier but who needs a carrier general (and Spaatz arguably does carrier job better). If he ignored AA in addition to defense maybe I would talk a different tone.

A few disagreements:
1. Wittmann, but the other way. Elite pass is less worth it in WC4 than in WC3. WC3 elite pass is $50 worth of medals plus resources, but in WC4 it's less than $20. Many can tear wet tissues apart but few can crack tough nuts (I'm talking 35+ defense) effectively like Wittmann. 2. McCampbell. Ignore defense makes Wittmann and Kluge top class, but not McCampbell because air defense is a bigger threat. The order of IAP air gens is Coulson > Spaatz > McCampbell > Ike for me. 3. Spaatz & Eichelberger. As described above. If McCampbell is viable, so are they. I'd even put them above Coulson. Despite Coulson having an edge in missiles, Spaatz isn't too far off and comes with Eichelberger, while weak by himself, can make Kluge and Zhukov even more formidable. 4. Katukov. Dude do you really not understand what 15% regen means? In addition to having the tank trio?

If air defense is a bigger threat, does that mean McCampbell is at top class but at least not as top class as Spatz? I now agree with the order of IAP air gens which you presented. 3. Eichelberger do have merit. 4. Now that I see it, it means that Katukov is already regenerative without the green ribbon and could be even useful on Events and hard Warzone levels. His only downside is that I have to spend medals just to replace his two skills with Panzer Leader and A. Assault.

McCampbell stands no chance against Coulson and little against Spaatz, but is better than everyone else. Katukov's problem is he's not that good right away and needs heavier investment than other IAPs, but he's great once fully upgraded. For elite pass, don't forget that it's also a lot more expensive to upgrade generals in WC4. It can afford 2 fully upgraded generals (not EC) in WC3 but only 1 in WC4 (not even 1 if it's List).

I still don’t see much utility in defensive and ‘regenerative’ skills. The only part of the game where health is an issue are the current events.

I still dont find katukov worth it or even viable for late game or even mid game. 2 of his skills are practically wasted as they only activate when hes below 50% hp. Your just getting a lite version of a fully upgraded List plus 1 extra mobility star

There are some things in the original list I really disagree with... Few thoughts of my own:
1. If you want MEDALS, battle pass is definitely the best option.
2. THE BEST iap if you just want more "raw strenght" is definitely the excellence medal, no doubt. However, it needs some investment to upgrade it and really make it shine. But in max level you could pretty much think about it as a legal cheat code, its the only iap you would ever need to pass things like doomzone and frontier.
3. About generals. Yes, Wittmann is definitely good, but Guderian and Manstein with just inspiration can do about same dmg as him, and can also have one more skill which you can choose, like rumor or explosives or just plain, so those two are still better. Manstein also has marshall rank, Guderian has bio, and I think Manstein is very likely to get one too in the future, so...
Also McCampbell, while technically better than f2p alternatives, is one of the worst iaps. The little increase he has over, say Arnold, is not worth the price, and all other iap air gens are better so why waste money on him? Coulson is decent but Spaatz is much better so if you want air iap, just get Spaatz. Why better? Becouse even without his anti-air ignore, their damage-cost against city defense would be about same, since Coulson doesn't have carpet bombing. (40% dmg vs 50% dmg due to cost reduction, Coulson only wins by 10% more dmg). And since Spaatz has anti-air ignore, that gives him +65% more dmg at best, and he can attack simply ANYTHING with full force.
Hayha is definitely viable, for me he is the best infantry gen in the game when he is maxed and is very hard to kill when built properly. Also he is useful in every situation (while specializing in killing generals, and used in hawkeye), unlike Yamashita who is mainly useful in frontier, and Marshall, who is an oddball... Marshall needs other inf gens to truly shine, but you propably rarely would use more than one. Also explosives doesn't work with his joint attack and he is very overpriced.
Williams is propably the worst iap in the game. He tries to be tank with his attack again thing, but there is just no point in this when tanks can simply do the same things as him but much better. If he at least had arty leader, he could be somewhat viable.
Also Tolby and Yeryomenko are both awesome, one of the best in tank and arty respectively. For their cheap price, they are the number 1 purchase in terms of iap generals.
So TLDR, best iaps to get imo are... -Excellency medal -Tolby & Yeryo pack -Battle pass Depending of what you want.

I still don’t see much utility in defensive and ‘regenerative’ skills. The only part of the game where health is an issue are the current events. He's friendly for unskilled players like me (and probably most beginners) who get tank generals below half hp quite frequently. Based on the updates in WC3 I think there will be more and harder events and maybe challenge campaigns/conquests. Katukov will be useful in those.
