They are brutal (numerous enemies and very strict turn limit) and I couldn't beat them all, but enough to reach the highest level. For everyone who is wondering who they should buy (eventually) here's a taste of the very end game and its requirements:
-> rush the eastern city and use its income and defense bonus to defend against incoming enemy reinforcements. Worked sometimes, depending on distribution of enemy tank and artillery generals' units.
-> impossible aka reload
-> ok once you figure out the balance between defending and attacking in order to relieve pressure
-> difficult, use the infantry on the island as paratroopers to prevent some of the artillery from joining the siege on the main land
-> the problem here is the turn limit, you have to be aggressive and you can easily be screwed by enemy unit/gen distribution.
-> manageable
-> works most of the time, use engineers and paratroopers for more resources and airstrikes/as distraction while the carriers disable most annoying enemies and cruisers + battleships focus on one ship at a time.
-> I think I never won this one
-> Quickly take the central airport and hold against the enemy advance. Some units swim to take the oil platforms and then tie down some units in the SE and NE corner until your main army arrives to take them out.
-> impossible

This is that daily thing, right? It felt so long ago when I used to surrender on the hardest stages to decrease my rank and face easier fights.

Yes, it's the farming ground for special forces upgrade materials. Higher levels yield more of these materials, but the chances of success also decrease drastically from lv10 onwards. In my estimation it's more of a playground for IAPs than an efficient way of farming.
