Heh I’m still in version 1.7… I haven’t reached the hard mode for Byzantine campaign yet so I’m not sure if Dromon unlocks there. Conquest triumphs don’t have any of those gears (in fact they are all garbage). So should I spend my parts on Dromon then, or something else?

These are other useful gears, you should focus on: Medical tents Venetian ships Viking longship Orban's cannon Helepolis' Cannon

based on my experience, I recommend: Viking boat ~6 at lv1 just for traveling around faster in conquest Carrack 2-3 at lv2 (so that you can destroy rampart) for your best navy generals, used mostly in campaign and conquest Dromon 3 at lv2 or one at lv3 for engaging tough enemies in sea battles, for treasure missions Manila galleon can do in the meantime but I wouldn't spend parts on them
Orban 2-3 at lv3 for certain missions in campaign and hero legends. If you have more resources, you can have ~5 at lv1 for conquest; if not then just use siege towers Helepolis 2 at lv3 for certain missions or treasure Rhino 2-3 at lv3 will always be useful Tent 12 at lv1 for territory battles/expedition and conquest; if you have more, then upgrade one to lv3 Triple bed is useful, no doubt but only get it when you have surplus resources (steyr and everything not mentioned is not good, so just one for the achievement)

What determines how good a general is at sea? Another question is is there any war gear that can increase mobility of a general or any skill for a general that can increase the mobility of another general.

Also I just unlocked the IBC but I still can’t recruit them using mercenary orders. Do I really have to raid Timur in order to get unit fragments?

Since there is no specific status for navy, you measure it by your gen's strength. Sending a gen with few points even if that is his / her specialisation would lead to him usually getting beaten by someone else with better statuses on his / her specialisation. There are skills, active and passive for naval combat. Harald Hardrada has Navigator, and there are other gens dedicated to having an advantage at sea.
Orban's Cannon and Constantine's Hammer increases movement on land by 1 point, at level 3. Rhinoceros decreases attack cost by 1 point, at lvl 3. At sea, there are many ships that do it. Pick your favourite. Viking Longboat goes up to +2 movement points at sea.
If you unlocked IBC, but still couldn't roll it, it might just be RNG / luck. Just keep raiding Timur on Hard.

Thanks for your reply. When I am in the recruit tab, and I press on the advanced enlistment, IBC is still grayed out, along with conquistador (I completed El Cid’s legend on hard mode) and Jet black armor cavalry and Modao and some others. Is the reason because the final campaign chapter for me (version 1.7) is Reconstruction of Byzantium instead of future chapters so I can’t reach them?

If it is the version before the update for the Fall of Constantinople, I got my IBC to lvl 11 or 13 before updating the game. Should be luck.

If you are talking about the conquest, that was released in version 2.0 I believe in April of this year, my game is still in version 1.7 which was like July of last year. That might explain it, since you had access to more campaigns such as Ottoman invasion, etc.

Another question about the conquest: I read a thread here talking about how there wasn’t enough compasses to unlock all nations. Is this still a problem or has it been resolved and if so when was it resolved?

Before the Fall of Constantinople update, it should still be limited.

If in a previous update as I am in, is there a way to bypass this limit, as I have heard. Like if you play with some certain nations first you get enough compasses? Or am I mistaken.

That is the way. Not sure whether we discussed it for all eras, but I know the Crusader States era had it. I believe clearing 1* and 2* states that didn't require compasses.

So for Barbarian invasion, Rise of Byzantium, and Viking invasion i can play in whatever order i want, but for crusader states i need a specific playing order? Do u happen to know the order?
