My first ever general was Dobrnjac. As soon as I had enough medals (305), I bought the cheapest general available in the tavern. Yeah... not a good general. I was really clueless. When I was a little kid playing this game, I had no clue what was going on, I was stuck at the Battle of Marengo (IE) and the Battle of Austerlitz (Coalition). I also liked to do conquests with Britain in any Europe map, I hated the American map. Man, I especially loved 1809 Britain! Paget, Wellesley, and Mercer coming down on France was just amazing. Not to mention Cotton and Sidney destroying Netherlands, and Rowland joining Wellesley's crew to destroy Paris. I also loved to build strong defenses with fortresses in the Ottoman empire 1809, without attacking anyone. I defended Istanbul with 3~4 rows of forts Nostalgia for my childhood... Who was your first general? Tell me your old, nostalgic story behind the choice.

Personally prefer having Sophia first cause she let me burn my medals on Ushakov and make the beginning a lot easier

I don't remember; it might have been Konopka. I bought someone I could afford when I didn't understand how the game worked. Then I found these forums and realized what an actual #$%^&* idiot I had been. As soon as I learned to regroup, he was gone.

I knew this forum when I started EW4, so I planned to start with Scharnhorst. But he did not show up in the academy. When the campaigns became more difficult, I tested the conquest mode. On the first try I was not fast enough, but by speedup a R21 or R26 safe, I got Sophia and Fatima as my first Headquarter entries. Maria and Sakurako I neglegted as it was written in a general guide here. Now having Sophia, Scharnhorst was not anymore so necessary. When I found Dumouirez was in the academy, I made him my first general - but not for long! He was horrible to play, he broke so much my gameplay, that I searched here desperate what to do. Luckylie I found an older thread Sakurako Underappreciated? from Friedrich βFried Riceβ Paulus - I gave the unwanted Sakurako a try - she is fantastic - the game became really nice to play. And without wasting medals for commander, I buy the items I want and no need for farming, the princess-game has a perfect flow. On my following games I only use Arnold to pick up the Princess quickly - no other generals.

(Quosdaniv, Agha, Kutaisov, and I don't remember the last one. Was it Latour?) You remember very good, the 4th one was Ferdinando 1. - the cheapest trainer. I did not mention all my testing-games: The trainer lineup you recall, was for evaluating the years formula. I ranked them all up to evaluate the values for the Headquarter bonus. Even lately I played two conquest challenges with an IAP setup. So yes, You are true. But the EW4 games (I have countless EW4 installed) that I really play, with all the campaign, these games I play always with a pure princess lineup and now with Arnold to pick them early up. I believe the missions were developed for a princess lineup - if you put each princess at her correct unit (sometimes must search), you can find their prepared way, a path with bunkers and trenches: The most obvious is Fatima, usually she has a Light Infantry three hex from a trading point, a capital, or the first installation she has to upgrade. When you found her way you will see: Fatima has an exact path and the ressources are so short in the beginning, that only she can upgrade on this way.
