Notes on Minor Nations: Sweden (Europe, 1806)
In 1806, Sweden is a 3-star nation allowing FIVE placed generals/princesses and is RED.
She begins the game with 100 gold, 70 wrenches, 400 food.
Your allies are RED: Russia, Prussia, Saxony, Austria, Great Britain, Sicily, Morocco, Tunisia.
Your enemies are BLUE: France, Denmark, Confederation of the Rhine, Switzerland, Italy, Naples, Algeria, Turkey, Sardinia.
GEOGRAPHY:
Sweden is six hexes across at its widest and seven from north to south, tapering down to two hexes wide at its southern extremity (not including Copenhagen). She *technically* has a land border with Denmark, in that the single hex occupied by Copenhagen is treated by the game mechanics as physically part of Sweden, but is controlled by Denmark at the outset. However, there are no other land connections and the northern border is formed by the map edge, from which the country projects downward as a triangle. There is also an island off the east coast, two hexes north to south, on which a single coast gun is mounted in the northern hex.
ECONOMY:
FACILITIES:
Goteborg, Level 4 city (20 gold, 2 wrench per turn)
Unnamed artillery factory, Level 1 (4 wrench/turn)
Karlskrona Naval Base, Level 2 (6 gold, 2 wrench/turn)
Total 26 gold, 8 wrenches with starting facilities.
Two developed farms and one undeveloped farm (40 + 40 + 15 = 95 food per turn)
DEFENCES:
Just north of Goteborg, a coastal artillery.
On the island one water-hex clear of the coast, a coastal artillery.
In 1806, Sweden can create fortresses (200 gold, 80 wrench) and coast artillery (60G/60W) but not small fortress or large fortress.
UNITS:
DOBELN on double light infantry. He has 74 Rank, 4 nobility, 5 infantry stars, infantry tactics, bugle and mass fire. He is equipped with the Armoured Carrier, which means he fights as well on water as on land. He is probably the most powerful starting infantry general among the small nations. He has two movement stars, and can move light infantry THREE hexes. Consumes 8 food/turn.
A single medium cavalry. Eats 7 food per turn
A double heavy artillery, eats 10 food per turn
A battleship commanded by CRONSTEDT, who is 3* naval and 74HP, 3 Nobility. Unfortunately his skills and starting items do not boost him. Eats 12 food per turn.
You are 58 food per turn to the good, and could sit on your hands forever if you were able to stay neutral.
ASSETS: You are not immediately in a position to be rushed. The only enemy who can immediately set foot in your territory is Fischer (1* in artillery on a Heavy Artillery, 74/4) and he is (a) tied to the defence of Copenhagen and (b) easily able to be swamped and killed. This gives you a trading centre very early in the game. If you have a high-econ-stars general with enhanced earnings (e.g. Princess Fatimah) to put in Copenhagen and leave there, you are immediately in a position to manipulate your economy with great efficiency.
Denmark tends to play fairly passively (plus it very quickly has the British to deal with, yay for allies). Confederation of the Rhine has a much bigger army than you, but is very quickly going to be distracted by Prussia, Saxony and Austria. The other large nations near you, Russia and Prussia, are your allies, and they cover your southern and eastern flanks, while your northern flank is the inviolable map edge.
In short, you have a fair bit of breathing room to build your early economy, hold Denmark at bay and eventually beat it, and then head out onto the Continent looking for allies to steal from and enemies to conquer.
LIABILITIES: You have no capability to create cavalry at the start, which may be an issue if you have a Headquarters that is very cav-heavy. However, that's no longer a problem once you've finished Denmark off, as they have a stable you can use.
