ECs are much more expensive to build. Overall cost it is, but paying a huge sum in one go or spreading it out over a long period is not the same. Then why do you mention it? OP was asking for artillery generals that it could afford for around <2k medals.

OP was asking for artillery generals that it could afford for around <2k medals. It is you who brought it up and veered the topic first, I mentioned ECs because you said Govorov is needed in the end anyway and I disagreed, all counter I made afterward is the continue of this topic. As for OP’s question, Sikorski will be the good deal he can use all the way to endgame, while Govorov will be expensive to just catch up everybody’s marching pace (cost +300 ~ +900 medals), and I see even an infantry-artillery build or tank-artillery build EC will be no less capable than Govorov in terms of endgame, let alone a dedicated artillery EC.

radomir000 EC is the xx commander you get for free. They are very expensive to upgrade, but also extremely powerful when well-developed. As an early game player, Govorov is a better fit for you but I would still recommend trying a bit harder for Guderian. Just One Bite resiphius Here's my thought on Sikorski vs Govorov: if you can freely pick the medals and the two NEVER move together, then Govorov's pros against artillery + assault Sikorski are only explosives and movement. However, we also need to take practicality into consideration. Sikorski, when equipped with 2 artillery medals, doesn't have a huge advantage against Govorov. Tank ECs have the top priority when it comes to assault medals and need them in large quantity, meaning it will take a very long time before Sikorski gets one, not to mention the air generals might want them as well. Artillery + combo Sikorski has no reason to split up with Govorov. As for artillery EC, I don't think it's as favorable as tank or infantry EC at endgame.

I'll go begin saving now for a decent tank commander - what are the best options even on a budget? I have Sikorski, crerar and three unupgraded EC

Guderian and Katukov. There's no third option. Vatutin? He is ~1600 medals, 5* tanks and good skills No. He's obsolete since long ago. You have enough tools to help you reach Guderian and Katukov. Do not get anyone else for now.

guderian costs 3350 medals, there was no way ever i could have gotten him that early It certainly is. It was hard before the new updates, but now that we have more medal rewards in early game, a good free air general, and much easier farming methods, straight to Guderian is doable even for beginners. Anyway. Your task right now is to get Guderian. No one should distract you besides Katukov.
