I had a feeling like I was getting ripped off and took a look at what I paid for and what I got.
For the armour with +2/+3 buff, it costs 5000 copper and gives 1000 copper and 1× sheepskin. The sheepskin costs 3000 copper. This suggests a loss of 1000 copper.
For the bow which costs 7250 copper, it gives 1500 copper and one brass plate. If the brass plate costs 5000 copper, that means a loss of 720 copper. If the plate costs 3000k copper, the loss is even greater.
You can buy them to smelt these equipment for their byproducts, but it is worse than waiting for a refresh.

I usually buy only one item, but not to dismantle it. Rather the opposite. I think it is a very decent piece of equipment for this price, so many of my generals wear it with pride

Yeah, the bad equipment in the coin shop is something I would skip until after you've completed all you wanted to do in Tenkabito, as the price of some of the castles in that mode are pretty steep. But now I just end up buying the green and blue stuff in the coin shop to fill slots on my generals who don't have anything better, I mean bad equipment is better than no equipment, right? And they also can give me crafting materials if I'm feeling desperate for them; it's a bad trade in terms of coins but if I'm valuing the items more than the coins then it's worth it (kind of like the trades in WC4 where you give up secondary materials for a loss to collect coins)
Once you finish Tenkabito coins don't become an issue. But before then it's best to save up, especially if you haven't bought Nagoya, Namioka, and Kimotsuki, which each costs 400000 coins.

Whatever you do with blue and green gear is pretty inconsequential since your best guys will be using purple and gold gear and coins are rarely a major limiting factor to most things you'd do beyond Tenkabito.
Smelting green weapons would be great if you could get iron ingots from that, even if it'd have cost like 3x what it does in the shop. But I don't think you can do that unfortunately.
EDIT: actually you can get iron ingots from that. So I'm gonna be smelting all the green gear I get my hands on now.

Mostly I buy trinket to disassemble for black irons.

I would argue that buying to disassemble is a very good idea. You buy the cheapest equipment in the ban-kin store for 100 each, disassemble it, and voila... you can now buy 10 magatama for 500 ban-kin + you get a nice cashback in gold coins and some rare materials.

You only get to do that once per week, which is a pretty big limitation, and you can just use sweeps/iron ingots to get that for a sizeable portion of the game. But this is a pretty good approach for me now since I'm trying to get some black iron to unlock some weapons. And I can't have a positive income on that if I'm using the purple items from sweeps/iron ingots to buy that magatama. So this'll be a pretty nice discount for me.

The armour with the +2/+3 trait has a chance to give black iron.

Buy the purple treasures and those can be disassembled for black iron. (Pictured here is Water Margin, which gives +3% leadership and +10 intelligence. It can be purchased for 100 ban-kin in the ban-kin treasure pavilion. I should read that book, it's a great classic of China.) Even if you accidentally buy a permanent treasure it's okay as you probably need to fill some treasure slots on generals anyway. Thanks doiharakenji for bringing this to my attention, I didn't know that the treasures could be disassembled for black iron until two minutes ago.

I see. Because these scrolls were much easier to upgrade, my Water Margin is lvl 9.
I still have the Fuji Aubergine-Style Caddy and the Chujo Ryu Heijo.

I have translated somewhere....

Does anybody know which of the two is better if you upgraded it?
The armour from Motochika's library vs the armour from Ujiyasu's library. Both start off the same, but the last level must be different because the latter has a skill bonus to unlock. I wonder if this will cause Ujiyasu's armour to be worse, and have less value if you kept and upgraded it.

My personal purple favorite is this one
