How do you make them? I saw a picture in another thread but it didn’t look like what my General page looks like and I don’t see a button anywhere. Do your troops need to be max level? I’m on iOS.

No. General's customization page. The page where you can change the legion composition. Bottom right, tap on the blank box and pick the available formations.
You may also equip them on the gen within and only for the context of that operation (campaign / HL / Conauest). Bottom of the screen, there's an option.

I don’t see any box in the legion composition, conquest, or campaign. The only option is the equip war gear in conquest and campaign, and there’s nothing in the bottom right of the legion editor. I feel like I’m missing the extremely obvious. |

Yes, I have the third campaign difficulty; and almost 200 chess boards. And when I play max challenge conquest the enemy gets formations.
I just tried deleting and redownloading the app, no dice.

I avoided Challenge like a plague. Seems like the menu was revamped greatly. Unless you want to prove a point, set enemy Talent to lowest, remove Formation, and lower one other setting to hit 80 points. Even for the hardcore players who like an especially tough challenge (and/or a reason to spam gens), they would want to optimise the game for farming and time-efficiency.  Go to Castle, tap the image of the legion to pull up the gen's legion, and look at the bottom right of the window. It is right there. Please email ET if it really isn't there. Also, add proof of having the latest official version. This is a screenshot taken from an Iphone which I use to play EW7 on. |

I see. Surprisingly, Formations and Nightmare might be a progress-locked feature. Not sure how I unlocked it because I didn't finish the Wars of Roses II on normal yet, but the feature showed up.
Try clearing Rise of the Ottoman and Wars of Roses I.

War of Roses 1 is a necessary prerequisite condition for unlocking NM campaigns and Formations respectively. Now when I have unlocked them I have a couple of questions.
1. When one Formation is "restraining" another - does it mean that it has some advantages when fighting against it?
2. Is Wedge Formation applicable for Infantry generals such as Basil? He charges quite often but his cavalry capability is rather low.
