We can't expect much from a free general given to players after completing tutorial, can we? Hardly there is any place for him even in f2p teams. Oh, well, maybe challenge conquests.

I think even upgraded Rommel would provide better support at sea (4* when upgraded and Rumour), but beggars can't be choosers. |

For Pearl Harbour defense Event, he could be kinda usefull. He can hold a Port maybe. Let the enemy Attack him, heal himself and dodge some damage. A free general mean also 20 medals from the files.

I use these generals in challenge conquests purely for the extra mobility when I need it by putting a mobility ribbon on them.

Actually, navy generals are sidelined so much so that Helfrich play a significant part, albeit small, in naval events. That 3 navy stars makes him okay to be deployed on spare naval units.

How much should one invest in him? To be honest, I'd rather buy a better admiral (I have Nimitz, Kuznetsov, Doenitz, Horton, Yamaguchi and Darlan in this order).
His skills are not very good and I think about 800+ medals should be needed to upgrade his navy *s and maybe a lot more hundreds for his rank.
Heck, I've yet to give Darlan his 2nd skill and Yamaguchi any skills for their open slots yet.

Can't find his usefulness even in challenge conquest The fact that Horton exists makes Helfrich almost completely useless, only useful for filling up a challenge conquest slot when you don't have 30 generals yet. Horton's just better in every way and the best part is he's free just like Helfrich. You can upgrade Horton, but upgrading Helfrich to me is just a huge waste of medals. Maybe he can be useful as a temporary naval general before Horton and Darlan, but once you get those two (free!) generals he loses any utility he might have had. It's like ET tried to make a bad general. Poor Helfrich, he was a very aggressive admiral who was able to sink a Japanese ship a day, but this didn't translate into the game. |

Without upgrades he is clearly inferior to any upgraded land general we have. For example, Konev has at least two skills helpful in see battles (Rumor and Explosives or Rumor and Inspiration), and his HP is higher. And with upgrades... Well, someone should be in desperate conditions to upgrade him  These generals play their part though. A new player can complete daily missions and Invasions without buying any additional general. Maybe, just maybe, on occasions they can be helpful in War zones. They have some skills and stars and a unit commanded by a bad general is better than a unit without any general at all. |

He's a benchwarmer for events where you need a filler if you lost a commander in an event where you cant re-use the lost one like warzones also, then Challenge Conquests.
He's free and won't give you anything if you dismiss so...at least work his General file minimums for the free medals upon completion, then bench him until or if ever, needed.
I did this for Schmidhuber and Wainwright already and need a few more kills only for Helfrich.
