I have timur and subutai as my ranged generals and I wanted to know who is better and who should I make my main ranged general.Currently it is Timur but i bought subutai recently and I think he might be better.

Timur is the second best general in the game by dmg (after Li Shimin). In comparison to Subutai, Timur deals 24% more dmg in equal conditions.

From a F2P perspective, a well built Subutai should more dmg every turn because of his active skill. Both of them have the same ranged skills and one "useless" cav skill.
If you have fought gens with 150 ranged points and a full ranged legion without IAPs, Formations, or Talent, they'd usually retaliate hard.
Of course, Timur will have an advantage against castle walls due to his last passive skill. Though Subutai's active allows him to deal more dmg to a garrison.
I believe that damaging the garrison is usually on par or better, especially if the city has lots of HP (like upgraded cities in Conquest or endgame HP).

Timur’s unique equipment adds +20% dmg, whereas Subuta’s unique equipment adds +20% of defense, not dmg. In addition Subutai’s title is 4 levels below, adds +11% dmg, whereas Timur’s title adds 15%. |
