From new to IAP to developer-only skills to Hard effects, ET has tried its best at neutering Rumour.
Made a mistake in lifting a flanking position and so, Wavell recovered in the latest defense mission at El Alamein. A very costly mistake that crippled my gens and moved my medic into a risky position to flank him.

And for the 80 we’ll have to invest in Rumor once again 😁

I Never gave up rumor, there will always be high value target that needs to get disabled. For example if you dont disable aircraft carrier guy in attack on Pearl harbour, you lose at Turn 10 max.

I agree. Don't count your chickens before they hatch. Until Modern War campaigns and conquests are out it is too early to dismiss Rumor as a viable option.

Its usage has certainly been diminished, but it is not-at-all useless.
In fact, since the only cases where it is less useful is in end-game content (ones that surpass the difficulty of UN Hard by far), for now it is a good change: it requires more coordination than just spamming rumor.
The warranted worry is ET continues and it is soon truly useless in new content. Hence, players would need to have enough output to kill (or defend) outright rather than stun. This would be a terrible mistake as it would push the possibility of completion almost exclusively to p2w players. If *all* enemy tank generals in the El Alamein event were un-stunnable I’m not sure I’d be able to complete it.
The Excellence Medal was already a big mistake, and probably reduced future purchases anyway. They should not continue with it.

Rumor is also a good tool for 'defend x allied units' objectives, it allows us to neutralize potential threats for our suicidal allies.
And if we don't want Rumor on Rommel or Guderian, we can always use Stuka lv5+ for the real emergencies.

I personaly dont put rummor on tank or infantry generals. I use it on arty and navy gens.

I kept them on Rommel and Rokossovsky since purchase ages ago. The idea was to have the tanks do their job and retliate with a punishing Rumour.
Plus, in El Alamein, I can't concentrate my arty gens to use Rumour well, considering the 4.5 zones to defend.

As a F2P player, I think good maneuvering is the only viable strategy to defend against the weakening of Rumour. I just don't think I can reasonably garner the firepower to destroy the really scary generals without disabling them with low morale.
Honestly, from the little I played, I didn't have that much trouble with the hard mode stuff with the automatic removed rumour, but that could also be because I've never done a hard mode defense mission (I just suck at those and can't/don't have the patience to clear normal, okay!?)
I seriously doubt ET is gonna completely kill off Rumour though. The backlash would be outstanding (it seems they do listen to their playerbase, albeit mainly their Discord and Facebook communities)
