So recently, I installed WC3 on my MacBook, a version which has been updated 3 times total with the most recent one being 3 years ago for compatibility. The last actual content update was 9 years ago. Which makes sense because the game has 4 ratings total and probably has next to zero players playing on this platform.
Anyways, the point is I have just started out and was wondering if someone on this forum still remembers the best way to start the game f2p without Sansonetti+free medals and daily rewards. I have no way of grinding medals except for the red missions that pop up with some small rewards (they are also impossible with like a <10% chance of success).
Currently, I am hq lvl 11 with 1528 medals and no generals except 2 ECs. Not sure if I should just buy badoglio or try to squeeze out medals for govorov.

Squeeze out medals or EC.
Neither choice is really wrong on that version.

So no badoglio? Also tank or arty EC? Govorov is very strongly recommended, unless it’s really that hard for you to save up to him. And then it’s Guderian and Patton. Ozawa could also help in early game. Badoglio will carry you far but he’s not permanent. You need at least one other artillery EC. Artillery EC hasn’t changed much so you can just follow the current guide, except Ace Forces is still relevant for you. Guderian, Govorov, Patton, and this EC will be the key players in your squad. Everyone else is supplement. After them, you want a third tank (Rommel or tank EC, Tide is still good for you), a third artillery (artillery EC or Bai), an infantry (add infantry stars to your second artillery EC, or Vasilevsky if you got Bai), and a navy (Yamamoto or Halsey). An air general (Goring) might also help but I forgot how important was he.

Govorov shouldn't be to hard to get (haven't touched conquests yet so some medals there) and then I'll try to follow the path. By the way, do you think its possible to get the under 65 turns without generals?

I personally think going for EC will give you more potential, but the academy generals certainly work.

hold on, tide is not necessary for tank Ecs anymore? what is the recommended skillset? Ace Commander, Plain Fighting, Explosives, Inspiration, Blitzkrieg. If you have lvl 3 Expropriation you can have Anti-Armor instead of Blitzkrieg. Tide of Iron isn't as important as before due to Expropriation.

Goring's low infantry damage isn't notable unless you're considering between him and Arnold.

I don't think air generals are that important anyway. If he thinks he need one then feel free to get either one of them, otherwise the other generals should do the job.
