As if more than half of the players would have heard of generals like Luigi Sansonetti, Hans-Jürgen von Arnim or Wilhelm Bittrich. In fact, if AB Cunningham is not that famous, most of those may end up mistaking him for his First Sea Lord successor John Cunningham or another John Cunningham serving RAF who both are WW2 veterans too.
In contrast, Gorshkov has a class of warships named after him just like Nimitz, Spruance and Kuznetsov, which would allow the more layman players to have a chance to at least know his name.
