For all gold and purple generals, you can look at their profile and see a unit icon right above their XP bar or to the left of their stars. Tap on the icon and you can see a unit name like Mounted Teppo or Akazonae Infantry. If you give that general their assigned unit, they get a 10% damage buff.
In terms of Hideyoshi, he uses Elite Samurai.

This honestly doesn’t matter too much since you really shouldn’t be using Hideyoshi at this stage unless mobility happens to be important or if you still don’t have anything better. Old man Hideyoshi is a pretty solid support gen due to his active in regular levels, but Hashiba isn’t too great.
If you’re really spawning him in on a given unit, Swordmaster is the best you can do unless you already have guys like Musashi/Nobutsuna/Yoshihiro or if they’re just 1 star. It’s more expensive but you’ll want that unit in the long term for sure, so that doesn’t matter.
