Hello everyone! I started playing GCS maybe around three weeks or a month ago or so. This isn't so much a guide as my personal experience playing conquest challenge. Although most of them are hard, some are easier than others.
Also, for which challenges to pick: I always not maximize tavern cost, the others are up to you.
1. Battles in Owari: Matsudaira
Yep, a vassal. Vassals are actually kinda busted in conquest challenge in my opinion. You get a (theoretically) powerful ally in your suzerain, so you don't have to fight everyone in 10 turns.
My strategy:
1. Knock out Oda. Shouldn't be too hard, since they're occupied fighting Saito. Be fast though, since Oda will pull back their many powerful generals from the Saito front if they detect you being the greater threat.
2. Build up your forces a bit. Don't rush, let everyone fight. Move all forces near Imagawa.
3. Declare war on Imagawa. Also shouldn't be too hard, they're in disarray. Hold the northern cities against an onslaught.
4. After taking care of Imagawa, push north and west. Don't bother taking on Takeda; they'll be a good meat shield against the Nagao-Nagano forces.
5. Beat up the smaller states like Kitabatake, Tsutsui, Shima Navy, etc
6. At this point you've won. Push north and finish your conquest.
2. Battles in Owari: Iga Ninja
My strategy:
1. Knock out Asai, make sure to take all/most of their cities to support your very weak economy. Saito will fight Rokkaku around the time Asai goes down, so take Sugihara and Gujo Hachiman (Mino province). Saito should go down since their southern cities have been taken by Oda.
2. Honganji will declare war on Rokkaku, let Rokkaku take care of it. If you can take Nagashima it's great, otherwise it's not a problem.
3. Your next opponent is likely allied Oda-Matsudaira so prepare for that. Launch a coordinated attack from Mino province in the north and Sawayama from the west. Push southwards and take out Oda. After that Matsudaira shouldn't be too much of an issue. The western front is relatively safe since Nagao and Takeda ties up all their forces against each other, Nagano too, and Imagawa is a non-factor.
4. Rokkaku has probably pissed off Ashikaga at this point. Push westwards, destroying Tsutsui, Kitabatake, etc. Keep in mind you're in a three-way war: Miyoshi vs Shogun's alliance vs Iga-Rokkaku, so you can let Miyoshi take up some punches.
5. Once you've pushed Miyoshi to the western islands and done number 4, it's time to fight Rokkaku. Put Odzutsu artillery and some fast troops near their western unguarded cities, while your main forces prepare to fight in the east. This is one of the most dramatic points in the conquest.
6. After taking out Rokkaku, destroy Miyoshi, Hatano, Isshiki, Asakura, and West Takeda. Again, shouldn't be too hard since you have a bajillion resources at this point.
7. I never liked fighting Hatakeyama due to their isolated territory, I always try to vassalize them.
8. In my game, Nagano and Nagao annihilated Takeda and marched against me, united. Send all forces east. Your best group of generals should focus on taking on Imagawa.
9. Once Imagawa is KO-ed, it's time to counterattack. I managed to vassalize Anegakoji, Hatakeyama, and Nagano, but you don't have to.
3. Armed Unification: Mori
My strategy:
1. Rapidly advance westwards, taking on the smaller clans (Miura, Uragami, etc) quickly.
2. Once you're around Hatano, you should be having 15 generals. Send a group to the south, taking advantage of the conflict there. Remember, Miyoshi is a third power, so try to let them live and absorb the punches. Ichijo is probably dead, leaving this front as Chosokabe vs Kono vs Miyoshi vs you. Slowly and patiently take out Kono.
3. Continue pushing westwards. There's no elegant strategy, only brute force.
4. Around Honganji, make a turn to the south, destroying the smaller clans there like Matsunaga and Suzuki.
5. At this point you've won. I made three general pushes: one group to the north, fighting Anegakoji, Asakura, and eventually Uesugi. Another strikes the center, fighting Oda and what's left of Takeda. A third group consisting of forces that destroyed Kono and Chosokabe attacks Tokugawa and Hojo. Eventually everyone converges to destroy Utsunomiya, Satake, etc.
