Im doing it as france right now, and what I did is just to take out their generals first, then advance. First off, get all the troops that you'll put generals to command. Then, build a hydrogen bomb. Once thats done, shoot it at a general and their health will fall drastically. Also, most of their generals command rocket artillery, meaning they can't retaliate. This makes it easy to storm these generals at once with miminal total damage.

I actually used Canada (2-star) and finished the conquest in 45 turns. I split my forces into two: The first one will go to China (best landing spot is Hong Kong), eastern USSR and North Korea. The second one will go to Cuba, then Africa --> Middle East, and up to the Balkans --> Poland --> major USSR cities. Then my two forces will regroup together at Moscow and finish off USSR. It is less stressful than using USSR/USA/China but you can actually complete this conquest pretty fast with more medals.

I stationed troops near all major cities, nuke all they want they can only take city with paratrooper after nuke and that is easy to retake back.
No need for plans on defending against nukes, better to plan on having speedy force to retake nuked city next turn.
Loss of general cant be stopped, but if health strong then general can survive because ai only use small nuclear devices (i think) not the upgraded big brother nuke.
Also AI has familiar patterns in deciding nuke targets for examples capitals and nuke producing cities also missile sites,it is no random chance. This helps you with the planning.

For the 1960 era my rule is not to station any hurt or low rank generals in a major city near the front line airport3 or missile site if at all possible because of the nukes. I think a fully rank general in a full hp capital can withstand like several nukes.
I am wondering though if anything in game reduce the nuke damage?

Only think reducing Nuke damage are Anti-Air Missiles.

Any country that can hit the Soviets from behind is very capable of defeating them. They almost never conquer GB or France completely and their generals become locked in a stalemate, allowing a rear attack after the PRC is dead.
