Conquests often take too much time. It's really quite a work to conquer the globe and controll tens of units each turn. Often the effort seems too overwhelming that you don't want to dive into them even if it's easy and with high rewards.
For that matter, I wonder if there are any tricks to reduce this burden? The key I think is to focus mainly on actions that count (like general units) and ignore insignificant ones, so that you can reduce your thought-time spent while maintaining effeciency and effectivity of your army as much as possible.
One idea I use is in the Cold War era is stop moving all your units (except those to reach cities out of airport range) and just build nukes, throw nukes, throw in PMI and skip turn, once you reach the point where you've occupied all key nuke locations.
Any ideas?

What others have mentioned, use MI, but in addition, I find myself also using armored cars to compliment the motorized infantries. The ACs have a 50% bonus against all infantry types (including the paraspam), so they serve well in assisting the MI blitz quickly.
As for Field/Rocket Artillery, abuse the long-range bombardment out of them much as you can. The AI doesn't realize the true value they offer at a bargain price. They're the most useful in the beginning of a conquest (especially in the European theater).
You already mentioned the tactic of nuking and paratrooping into a city. Definitely worthwhile for cities with large hp (and/or with a general sitting in it). One negative thing is, you can find yourself building up a massive gold stockpile while waiting and waiting for the nukes to be prepared. I personally don't ever bother with 2nd or 3rd type of the nukes, because the first type is fastest to produce in least amount of turns. If I was piling high on gold, I would use up 2,000 to 4,500 worth by bombing every single city with airport level 2 or 3 in an entire region and capture all within reach. It prevents a loss of a city to enemy bombings.
Those 3, is what probably would help the most with the conquests (long as you have sufficient troop techs researched of course)
