Welcome to what I hope to be the first in a series of posts on the military history of my homeland: Ireland To start off, the battle of Saintfield(my home town) On the ninth of June, 1798, a rebel army of the United Irishmen at least 1000 strong, attacked and killed the loyalist(NO I'M NOT GOING INTO THE POLITICS ON THIS ONE) McKee family. In response to this, an army consisting of 350 men and 2 six-pounders marched on saintfield. The rebels knew of this and lay in wait, going of on a tangent here but the geography of the battle was important as the British army was marching down a path with thick woods on steep hills on either side. The rebels hid in the woods and when the British advanced past after scouts told them it was safe the United Irishmen charged down the hills trapping the army they soon routed the terrified British force. Losses: 30-40 United Irishmen killed . 50 British soldiers killed 10 captured

I'll do it as soon as I'm certain that I won't get banned for slightly mentioning the political aspect on the rising If you focus on describe what happened and what occurs as history. No ranting of poltics. Etc... if you keep it simple enough but well-defined and well-detailed, I think the moderators would approve.
