Does anyone have any good strategies for this battle? I have been struggling with it for a while.

Try to keep your ships in a line and surround enemy ships that move away from the main body of enemies

For those of you still struggling on this one. I figured it out! Try and attack the ships without generals. They will be easy to take down and in the end will result in less damage. Whenever you defeat nearly all of the ships in a group, attack the general. You will have little fire power against you.

Bonus points for surrounding the general so they get ultra low morale, I keep low health ships around for this purpose

The Spaniards don't move much so I tend to focus on the French first before swinging south, it's a lot easier to surround them so I save them for last

I take out the ships first then the general as well. Spain is usually the easy force to deal with.

You need to get generals with lot of healt ( thy don't need to have a navel star)

I normally play defensive in the South picking off ship after ship while playing aggressive North. Then I break through in the South and encircle the rest of my enemy in the North

I normally use Kate, Sophia, Isabella, and then any general with health. Health is more important than naval skills in this mission. Just make sure to encircle your enemies

I defeated it by letting the enemy come at me and surrounding them one by one.

Mostly knowledge about movement range of the units gives success in all ET games. Sometimes when AI is cheating in damages I do so. (Pacific and GOG prior save) but in Napoleon mostly it works fine. .... Am I wrong or defending in Sea Battles is better in lieu of damages? Or it's jus like in SunTzu, firstly give oponent worse ground, then make him feel that he wins/lost (depends of what you expect), confuse ehim with numbers (less or more units involved than AI wishes to engage) and lastly do as no one could expect. This is really easy to see in history of Trafalgar. (Nelson's newest tactic and unexpected movements) www.bbc.co.uk/history/interactive/animations/trafalgar/index_embed.shtml
