But its still necessary to buy chips with medals if your stuck on a certain mission which you have not-so-strong units with lower stars and parts are hard to come by

Only if you have hack and unlimmited medals. Just play, use cards and get more components, and xp for ur units. I have more then 7k green chips which i dont use atm

Lol, I probably dropped a couple grand in medals on them in ME & SA. Oh well, a week of farming gets those back.
I generally try to win without using cards. I'll use them sometimes like if I replay a map a bunch of times and I can't see how to win without using 1 in a key moment, but they feel like a bit like cheating. I'm guessing after Antarctica I won't have a choice (already beat the boss, but haven't quite made Mission 9 yet.

Its al about upgrading ur units... Getting a 3 star level with cards but delivering you earlier a bank or general can in the end help you be quicker.. That is why i used gold bought cards fron north america (maybe even south).. If i now do antartica i dont need cards for a 3 star win

Is there any penalty for not getting a 3 star first time around? GoG1 taught me that if you can't get a perfect victory restart immediately.

If you get for example 1 star that mean you get 1/3 of the total gold plus the whole medals you can get from that mission. And if you replay it again and get 3 stars, you just get the 2/3 of the total gold. But you just get the components when you finish the mission with 3 stars.

And you don't get the difference if you replay and improve.

And, you only want to spend them on Generals and maybe financials, the other upgrades are a waste. If it's any consolation I made it over halfway before I realized I'd misspent and restarted.
