Just got to Alpha 5 mission 1. Wow! Lots of aliens You try to push out securely you get overrun, but if you are super aggressive (charge all objectives) you can get it in 7 turns no cards, but all my units were nearing death. Just out of curiosity how many medals does it take to totally upgrade shields for your top 3 units in each category (Armor, Arty, Navy, Air) 10,000? 20,000?
I'll spend $20 to support the developer, but no way am I spending $60+ just to get the unicorn or an extra dragon.

At alpha you can swap 2000 medals for 120 core.. Here is the link to upgrade requirements from shield : european-war-4.boards.net/post/42426/thread (302 core needed for full shield/regeneration... So 4x3x302 = 3624; so you need 30,2 x swap --> 31x --> 62k medals) So do the math and you know it... Why spend money just a little bit of patience is also ok since farming medals is only time limited

Core Shields can only be obtained through:
# Campaigns # PvP # Antarctican Market
If three essential Generals are fully upgraded, it's now best to spend medals for core shields in the market.
It's kinda worth it if you spend $$$ to get Unicorn and Dragons, because of the extreme difficulty in the next planet, Epsilon.
Fully upgraded units can beat these alien missions.

Yes getting shield for medals is necassary. No need for real Money to achieve all battles
No need to shield up Planes when attacking mostly bases

Fair enough, but there is plenty of good free/cheap games out there. Spending over $100 of real money just to beat a dozen small levels? That doesn't make any sense. That's more than I'd spend on a full up Total War with all the downloads & easily 200+ hours of game play. This is basic economics vs addiction psychology. Sometimes you gotta know when to say when. If you can't put the bottle/cards/pipe down when the cost is more than the gain maybe you shouldn't pick 'em up in the first place (IMO).

And funny thing is.. Its not necessary True, If you are willing to put in lots of time into farming/replaying missions over and over to figure out a winning combo. But, the "free-to-play:pay-to-win" model intentionally plays on human psychology (sense of failure if game is incomplete) in order to overcome basic economic sense (value vs cost). It's kinda brilliant from a marketing perspective.

True, but I bet unicorn, double dragon, & Zeus eases things along a bit.

So instead of dragon + t14 you can have zeus + dragon, which is a huge step up. The only missions where your statement applies is where you can bring only one tank.

Not saying you can't, just saying that the zeus is better than he gave it credit for.
