Here I will show you the formations in which you should use your generals, and when each is applicable
First, I must define an important term: Top-grade land general: Your generals and strong generals you are provided (3+ stars and great skills)
1: The Duo When to use: 4+ top-grade land generals, campaign with a strong enemy blocking your main route, big campaign maps What is it: pairs of generals. 1 Artillery and 1 Cavalry. Stick together, attack same objectives. Prime example: my Poland 1809 guide
2: The Cluster When to use: campaign with all targets in one area and an overwhelmable enemy on the way What is it: Everyone close together on one route, paving a road of death to their target Prime example: Invasion of Britain in French campaign
3: The Trio When to use: campaign with targets in different directions, some small country conquests. What is it: 2 clusters of generals heading in different directions Prime example: 2nd HRE mission (forgot the name)
4: The Team Leader When to use: Most 5* country conquests, some 4* country conquests, Navy in conquests What is it: Your general works with a group of strong units to secure objectives Prime Example: my original France 1798 guide
5: The Lone Ranger When to use: Rushing conquest How to use: 1 Cav general runs ahead of the force, takes cities, and moves on FAST Prime example: Western Cav General in Kanue's HRE 1798
