2 Pics below show a sample trade offer for industry, these offers can also be for 100 or 150 medals ratio, specially in late game.
At some point it might be needed to trade some medals for ressources to build wonders or increase techs.
I think a good way to do this is to first wait to make sure the trade is realy necessary, for example if one doesn't have a good selection of generals yet then the trade priority might have to be reconsidered since medals need to be spent to get generals before anything else.
It is important to eventualy(you may not be able to do this right away) find a good 1 star country to farm ressources in the 1960 era,if you can do it efficiently your biggest trade needs will be more manageable as you would basically only need to trade for 1 ressource (Industry) because 1939 is the only era that gives industry.
Below pic showing the riches that the 1960 era brings:
The problem is that ressource wise the 1939 era is a very poor reward, the max you get is 2k industry,so a better plan might be to farm 1960 era to get both Energy and Science ressources you need and only trade for industry in the world market.
This system works pretty good if you consider that trade is the most generous to industry, compared to the other ressources you can get 5500 industry (or even higher) for 50 medals but trading for science would only bring about 1300 science.
Of course if you want you can just farm for industry too but the reward is so small compared to what is needed that you would need an incredible amount of patience to get enough of it to build some of the wonders.
Here is a couple pics here showing Terra cotta versus 1939 reward:
In other words you would need 60 conquest games with a 1 star country in the 1939 era to build a single wonder.
Keep in mind that one should do all 3 type (1,2,3 stars countries) conquests of all eras before starting the highly specialized/focused 1 star country farming, this is because the priority is to win all possible medals and only then to go after the ressources.
If you cannot farm 1960 because it is too hard then start in 1950 or earlier, move to a later era as soon as you can because 1 star countries in 1960 give a huge amount of ressources.
It is also advised to find a good FWYS(Farm while you sleep) 1 star country to facilitate all of this. More on FWYS in This thread .
Note that commodities price varies in the world market,I will list the best prices I found and you guys can post updates if you see better prices.
Energy 3320 per 50 medals.
Science 1280 per 50 medals.
Industry 5500 per 50 medals.
