I posed a question a few weeks ago encouraging people to guess the person who I think is the best Polish man. Eventually it was guessed and thus I am here presenting the guy.
Who is Chopin?
Fryderyck Chopin is one of the worlds most famous composer and probably the best known Romance composer.
What is the Romance period?
A type of music played in the 19th century. See timetable below. The most remarkable thing about the Romantic music is the expressions of emotions through the music, before the Romance period there were usually two types of settings, a thrilling and dark one (minor key) and a happy and soft one (major key). Romantic composers were able to put much more emotions into their music, a commonly used example is the funeral march of Chopin:
Medieval c. 500–1400
Renaissance c. 1400–1600
Common practice
Baroque c. 1600–1760
Classical c. 1730–1820
Romantic c. 1780–1910
Impressionist c. 1875–1925
You can see a hell lot of difference between the two, the only two things they have in common is that they are pieces for the piano and written by Chopin, but that's all.
Biography
Since I do not like to copy Wikipedia I will just give a short summary of his life:
Just like Mozart, Chopin wrote classical pieces at young age (7). His father was a Frenchman and he had a Polish mother, to continue his study on classical music he went to Paris. However due to the Polish uprising of 1830 it was not safe to return to Poland and Chopin stayed in France. Due to him homesickness most of his music is sad and refers to Poland, an example is the Polonaise (means 'Polish' in French, but is way different from the modern polonaise). Chopin wrote many pieces and earned money by selling pieces to the French bourgeoisie. Chopin died of an illness (tuberculose) , his body was buried at the Père-Lachaise cemetery in Paris. Ironically his Funeral March was played at his funeral, one piece of his body is not buried in France however. His heart was buried in the Holy-Cross church in Warsaw and still is today.
