Rommel was actually forced by Hitler to commit suicide because he was involved in a plot to kill Hitler and Hitler didn't want to execute him because he was a well known public hero to the German people so he forced him to kill himself and pretend he died from wounds he received after been straffed by an allied fighter. I think Doenitz was only made Furher because by that time all the top Germans were either captured, killed, ran away or had fallen out of favour (Goering probably would have succeeded Hitler but in later stages of the war he had fallen out of favour with Hitler). As far as I know all Doenitz really did as Fuher was surrender to the allies. Can I ask a question? If so my question is What was Operation Valkyrie? Who was responsible for it?
