Hi,
Are you intrested in joining a tw? Here's a (hopefully nice) tutorial for you!
What is a TW?
A TW, short for theoretical war, is a turnbased roleplay in which you control a nation during a historic period, like ww2 or 1600 or something like that.
How do you control a country?
In a TW, you control a specific country. You can choose yourself which country you want to play, like Denmark for an example.
Before a TW starts, there usely comes a "country claiming" thread for that specific TW. Claim a country in here, and if you're the first who claims that country, you get it and play with it.
In some TW's you can control multiple countries, due to the OPness of some selections we added rules for that:
*The countries must be in the same alliance.
*The countries can't border eachother, you can't make an OP attack on another country with both your countries.
So now i have a country, and than what? (Phases and turns explained)
You control your country during multiple phases in the war. Every phase you have turns which you can use for:
* Recruting
* Researching
* Attacking
The amount of turns you have depends on the tw. Read the rule thread for the specific tw in order to see how much turns you have.
What does my country control?
Before a TW starts, there is a map thread. In this thread you can see how many and which provinces you control during a war. This is important, so check it before the war starts.
Recruting
You can use your turns to recrute an army. Before a war starts, the tw-host states the recruting cost of each unit in the rule thread. there are usely 2 troops:
*big troop, per turn you spend recruting you get: Amount of provinces/2
*small troop, per turn you spend recruting you get: Amount of provinces.
As you can see your amount of provinces determine how much troops you get.
If you recrute a small troop, like infantry and have 3 provinces you gain 3 infantry.
If you recrute a big troop, like tank and have 4 provinces, you gain 2 tanks.
Get it?
ones you've recruted an army, you need to state that below every phase.
Researching
Another way to use your turns is due researching. The Researches available stands in the tech thread of the specific TW.
Every tech needs an amount of turns to research, after you spend all these turns researching this tech. You get the tech and it's bonus.
For an example
Banking System (7 turns to research)
Gain 1 additional turn each phase.
After you spend 7 turns to research "banking system" you get the technology and it's bonus "Gain 1 additional turn each phase". It's as simple as that.
Attacking
The most complicated part of each tw, the attacking part.
All your units have a Battle value, it's called Battlepower, or simply BP. For an example, infantry has a bp of 1 and tank a bp of 2. You can increase the amount of bp a unit has due researching.
Now you have for an example 3 infantry units and 6 tanks. you have a total of 3+6*2=15 bp.
The enemy has 4 infantry, but he has researched a technology to increase the bp of an infantry unit to 2. he has a total of 4*2=8 bp right now.
so the battle is 15 bp vs 8 bp.
Now you need the dices.
To calculate what you need to throw you must fill in the following formula: 7+((defender bp-attacker bp)/(attacker bp))*7
fill it in and you get 7+(8-15)/15*7=7-7/15*7=4. You need a 4 for your next attack.
now you throw 2 dices.
When you throw a 4 or higher, your attack was succesful, when you throw lower, it failed.
You also lose some troops during battles. therefore you have a seperate loss calculation.
Your and your enemies base amount of losses is 30%. this changes 5% per diceroll below or above.
So you needed a 4, but you throwed a 6. this means that:
you lose 30-2*5=20% of your army
The enemy loses 30+2*5=40% of his army.
20% of 15=3, new bp is 12.
40% of 8=3, new bp is 5.
In order to conquer a province, you need to battle it 3 times succesfully.
Example of a Phase
In this Tw i play as the Netherlands, i get 7 turns per phase.
1-3 Researching Inf Tactics. (3/12)
4-5 Recruting 4 infantry, 12 infantry in total.
Declare War on Belgium
6 Brabant A.
Belgian bp 8, Netherlands bp 12.
7+(8-12)/12*7=5
7qqs3Wvs
Throwed a 9. meaning i lose 30-4*5=10% of my army, belgium loses 30+4*5=50% of his army.
My new bp is 12-1=11
Belgiums bp is 8-4=4
7 Brabant B.
7+(4-11)/11*7=3, i need a 3
10 throwed! I lose 30-7*5=0% of my army, belgium loses 30+7*5=65% of his army.
My new BP is 11, no losses
Belgiums new bp is 4-3=1.
Now i need to state my bp below my turns:
Netherlands bp = 11
