1943 scenario is lopsided against Axis powers. When I play as Allies powers such as Brazil or even Cuba, the AIs perform admirably and I could just tag along for the ride. Things are very different for Axis power though, German and Japanese AI are criminally incompetent and will be defeated soon without immediate assistance.
As Romania, my primary objective is to secure Germany's eastern front, grab territories in Asia, and then swing westward to recapture territories lost in western Europe. For the first few turns, in divided my forces in half, the primary strike force consisting of artillery, tanks, and armored cars fighting off Soviet forces with the goal of securing Stalingrad. This part is grueling because I don't have many upgrades or good generals while the Russians have a lot, but their generals will die eventually. Once I have Stalingrad, I began producing armored cars to bolster my forces.
I sent smaller force, 1 armored car, 1 artillery, southward to Athens. Egypt will become a nuisance and try to capture Athens, when they do I will recapture the city. My goal for now is to hold on to Athens until I defeat Soviet Union.
Meanwhile, the Russians took Kiev from the Germans. I diverted a small force to retake the city immediately, and then push onward to capture Moscow. I took Moscow and eliminated its heavy tank through attrition using tanks and artillery, but I'm sure there are better strategies. Once Moscow falls, move westward to take Leningrad and eliminate the Soviet Union as a belligerent power.
At this point, Japan would have lost its home island and most of China, while Germany losing most of France. I gambled and did not help Germany right away, instead I made a mad dash for Asia. My armored cars swept through Yekaterinburg and Dihua, converging on Ulan Bator to destroy Mongolia. From Mongolia, I captured Changchun, and produced tanks to deal with paratrooper spam near Peking. My front line in East Asia stabilized around Chongqing - Wuhan - Pyongyang, since I didn't have the resources yet to fight the Americans.
Income from conquered Russian cities allowed me to build up a decent force in Greece. I captured Istanbul, Cyprus, and Ankara, then took Jerusalem after a brief siege. Then I defeated Iran and Saudi Arabia, advancing into Africa and took all their cities. Spain had fallen at this point, so naturally I used North Africa as a staging base for an amphibious assault. Once Spain falls, my forces surged into France, and at this point I have enough income to bomb the cities into submission. Paris and Amsterdam, which Germany carelessly lost early in the game, fell quickly.
For the next 15 turns or so, my armored group in North China took Chongqing and Wuhan, while troops in Middle East captured all of India, Burma, and Indochina. Landing in Taiwan and Japan were easy, because the US was focusing on the battles in Europe.
By now, Romania is the master of three continents and victory is assured. The Asian task force conquered Australia and invaded South America, which was tedious due to long supply lines. In retrospect I should've probably attacked western US instead. I bombed all cities in Great Britain and destroyed them within 10 turns, and Canada fell shortly afterwards. I then invaded US from both directions, linking up near Denver to end the game. My AI comrades just watched and did nothing.
All together it took me 100+ turns to win the game. It's not a quick win, but as long as the Soviet Union is eliminated before Germany falls you should have a easy road to victory.
