Transfermium/Guisan/Kastrioti. I changed like 3 days ago Around the time when TK421 was Sans. [self-promotion] And if anyone ever forgets, I suggest looking at the beginning of The Geography Game. [/self-promotion]

Was bored, so made this map. Europe after the Treaty of Trondheim, 1638 (Based off a match of 7p Eastern Europe) Orange=HRE Red=Poland-Lithuanian Commonwealth Green=Russia Purple=Ottoman Empire Brown=Crimea Khanate (Otto vassal) Grey=Other Nations So, following from this, it may be fun to play a 'diplo game' with EEaW. Diplo here is in Warlight sense, in which you use the Diplomacy mechanics of talking to each other (via Private CHat) and cooperating/backstabbing in a normally FFA game. I don't know, perhaps Desophaeus might be interested in this.

[/self-promotion] I meant in that Eastern Europe game (Wesnoth?) you played Ottos. Got into Carpathia, then got into stalemate around Ragusa-Belgrade-Szeged-Debrecen-Khotyn-Bratslav line. Crimea got killed by Russia; it has currently 3 units alive. Edit: REplay corrupted; I'll post pics.

I have 59 turns left; I should be able to beat them. Beat them-killing leader, so I can just snipe as soon as I can get through.

Aliens in GoS are a lot easier. With only S De Gaulle and S Manstein, I'm making great progress

Tbh, if you want me to play EEaW, I am going to need some serious training to get up to speed lol. If we have enough players here tgat has at least SOME training in this Wesnoth mod... we could do a game and post stuff in a thread for everyone to view. Quintus Fabius, I haven't tried either the Wesnoth itself nor the mod. Should I do some training in the original game or just skip it and practice in the mod? Would it be more beneficial to improve first in Wesnoth or is it too different from the mod anyway? Example: Age of Imperialism mod for Civ3. I play it a lot, and it's extremely different from the normal game. The mod eschew the REX phase (Rapid Expansion phase at the beginning of the 4X genre games) altogether, no razing nor build any new cities are allowed. And instead of an afterthought, navies can be pretty important (especially for colonial powers like GB, USA, France, Germany etc...). Plus the dominant unit in Civ3 - artillery become the essential unit for AoI (either land based or seaborne). So all of this feels extremely different from the normal game and has very limited overlap in the two learning curves between the original and the mod. So... TL;DR version, to play the EEaW, should I go straight to it?

I personally recommend trying out wesnoth first just to get a hold on it (tutorial and maybe 2 campaign levels) as mods can get hectic (Wesnoth is with elves and humans and dwarves, bla bla bla, but the 18th century mod has fortifications and cannons and all different skills). It should share some skills from the main game, but just do the tutorial and a few levels at most. From the pics that Quintus Fabius has posted, the mod uses completely different units.

Desophaeus , I agree with Farmer Doggo . Basically get a feel of Wesnoth (tutorial and at least either 5-6 levels of Heir to the throne or a smaller campaign like the South Guard, and some vs AI matches), then play EEaW. EEaW has completely different balance than mainline(vanilla): Cav are main breakthrough, arty/medics/navy are in large amounts, and the game has completely unfair OP units (e.g. Winged Hussar line, Sweden). I'd suggest people who play Wesnoth but haven't played EEaW (from the looks, Farmer Doggo and Mountbatten ?) to play some matches against AI or other players (I'm avaliable tomorrow, and the POlish forums have a lot of people).
