I've heart that the ion-cannon has a bonus against the alien main base. So if you have a great ion-cannon you can hold your ground (try to save money in the beginning) (when russia do not focus on the siberic place.. you only lose money, the same thing for china with their places in the west) and after you destroy the bases you can easily attack and kill the aliens because their shield is gone.
(Can someone confirm that their shield is gone and they are much weaker when the bases are all gone?)
I tried this and it worked out if i had a greater ion-cannon weapon (or if i could hold the ground longer) i only had to kill the base on borneo (indonesia) before is saw "game over"
So i hope that this is the answerr (my best general is 4 star attilery so if you have greater generals you could hold the ground for a longer time)
