I have no IAPs. I am Scrooge. /\ Same... I'm very much a Scrooge when it comes to real money. Working a job in RL and paying your own way through college changes the whole meaning of money, believe me... It's completely different to me, far more precious because it's like a representation of how much blood, sweat, and tears I spent to get it into my hand via working many hours.

Generally speaking, programmers, who wrote this game, want to get some money for their work too. So buying IAPs is not so bad idea for everyone. But that's everyone's own choice, whether to do it or not. Sure, in some countries the price of one IAP is salary for month, in other countries it costs less than evening in a pub. So this differs a lot from one person to another.

Old dusty post but figured I'd throw this out there. After having this game on 4 different devices over the years, and being probably one of the the only (tablet) oriented game that I didn't quickly get bored with, or disgusted with the pay to play/win mobile game model that 95% of games use, I finally spent money on the IAPs. (Which is not something I really ever do)
For 2 reasons: 1. Because I put in enough time with the game to know I would not get bored and continue playing to get my moneys worth. 2. Biggest reason was because enough game experience had proved to me that (unlike almost any other mobile games) you can do just fine in game without spending a cent (although some frustrating grinding will occur).
The IAPs being completely optional is the literal game changer for me. It definitely added a new enjoyable dimension to playing and a great head start on my last "new" career.
Long story short: Bought Manstein (Definitely Recommended) & Zhukov (Helps early, but not overly impressive) and some medals for about as much as an Xbox game and was certainly money well spent.
Like Max Otto von Stierlitz said if you really enjoy a game, definitely try to support the devs even just a little. Too few of them are just greedy b@$t@rds these days that just crank out pay to play games, so when you find quality games like this, that are legitimately free to play, its always a good idea to support the better developers out there any way you can.

My game data is on my grandma's iTunes so theres no way I'd be able to spend $20 on an IAP gen, let alone $60

If it was an account with a ton of progress you didn't want to lose, you could easily do it with minimal info for her account + an itunes gift card. Or do like I did when I finally decided to recover all wasted medals from the learning process and go all in with a new 'pro' campaign. Again just google account and gift cards. With all the b.s. on the web these days, I stick to giftcards as much as possible for everything purchased anyway.

Every time I spend iTunes gift cards on ET games I regret it. Now I just spend them on music

Why they must cost real money? So that the devs can earn $$ as income & to pay off the cost of making the game.
