HOI3 Is another great Grand Strategy game made by Paradox, set in a World War II scene. You can change politics in your country, very hard sometimes but possible, into anything you want. Fascist America? Np. Communist Britain? Np. You can align yourself to any of the three factions (comintern, allies, axis) so long as you aren't the leading member (British Empire, Germany, CCCP) .
My current playthrough as CCCP was very fun. I started by invading and annexing the Baltic States and Romania. I had a big problem with the Latvians rebelling against me, and even worse in Estonia, so I gave Estonia "Independance" as a puppet government with a CCCP employed leader running on communism. I knew Germany was planning something because they mobilized their armed forces. Because of this, I sent a huge army to guard the borders with Poland. This tipped everyone off that I was planning to invade Poland, but they would be wrong. Germany immediately invaded Poland and in a few months had the country completely annexed. Their forces were still being supplied, so I took this as my time to strike. I declared war, but they broke my line and pushed almost all the way to Leningrad. In a fit of fright, I ordered all industry to move to Siberia to save our production. Because of this, the territory the Germans stole afterwards was crap because all the factories and industry were broken or moved away. After this, we were able to stabilize our line and use the Germans own technique against them: The Blitzkrieg. We knocked them back completely, except for in the north which took almost a year to be mopped up of German forces. Eventually, we pushed them all the way into Berlin. Germany never surrendered until the last of their soldiery died. Shortly after, I looked to Afghanistan. They had a tiny army, so I moved a decent amount of ours into their territory, and almost as soon as war was declared, they surrendered. At that time, it was decided that I had too much territory to keep track of, and rebellion was a huge problem. So, I gave Lithuania, Latvia, and Afghanistan a puppet communist government. As I learnt, Japan was now in charge of the Axis so peace was settled with the rest of the axis members and all of my land that Japan had taken was given back. I needed a good front with the allied forces in Europe, so I couldn't gove all of Germany it's land as a puppet, so I gave it the East and made the DDR. This left West Germany under Russian control and I have greater forces at the border than the allies do. I took the oppurtunity to invade the Balkans, as everyone there was unaligned to any faction. Each country fell except for Greece. I essentially invaded them, removed their government, and replaced it with Communism. Greece never did have a chance to fight, because they became a fascism and joined the Axis. All of our resources are at max capacity, and we have a rediculous amount of production, so we sell many resources to Britain and America for ludicrous sums of money and become rich. At this point, we have discovered how to synthesize energy with Nuclear Reactors. However, my lust for the spread of sweet communism has not been quenched, and I declare war on the Axis. Italy and Greece are the first to fall, and I temporarily annex Italy. I give Ethiopia, a former Italian colony, independance as a communist state and eventually Italy as well. Meanwhile, in the Asian front, I'm getting my [expletive] kicked. Remember all the industry I moved there? Well they have all of that. Our production still is amazing, but so is there's. So, I moved three of our top command units to command the war there, bringing hundreds of divisions and 70% of our soldiery to take back the bulk of Siberia, and we do. Only southeast Russia is under Japanese control. Eventually, we take Japanese Mongolia, Tannu Tava and Tibet, however none surrender, along with many small Asian states. The war currently persists close to a stalemate, and we are about ine year away from researching the Atom Bomb.
