I just want to know if I'm going about this the right way and if I have a successful squad. My generals are:
Name. Rank. Items.
Sophia:125 horse artillery and powder
Kate: 110. Ram stem and item that gives +4 attack
Fatimah: 110. Napoleonic code
Picton: 98. No items
Radetzky: 110. Cavalry items for +2 attack and defense
Golitsyn: 64 ( just got him today ) no items.
Anything besides an extra artillery general that I can add? Is Grouchy worth buying as said artillery general?

If I remember right Radetzky is a 4 star merchant so if you upgrade him 1 time you could get rid of fatima freeing a slot for eventually Isabella who is just a monster artillery general and Lan who is the other cav princess you eventually want to have.
Grouchy is pretty good art general and you need at least 2 art generals if you got 6 slots imo.
Movement item for all helps a lot, especially for artillery.
In my line up I like to have: 1 naval 1 inf 2 art 2 cav

In my opinion, if you are fun playing with your line-up then that line-up is the best. The fact that it's your own line-up is enough to make it special. It'd be boring if everyone uses Lan, Lasalle, Suvorov, Victoria, Isabela, and Moreau. Anyway, as lassalle mentions, with the book, you don't need Fatima. And you might also consider replacing Kate with other land-based general because the use of navy is very limited in EW4. I would keep Kate as a situational general for some campaigns (esp the British one). Golytsin will definitely make your line-up stronger. Anyway, I think your line-up is good (at least enough to finish the game). Grouchy is good but I do not think you should buy him since you will eventually have Isabela. You should be able to get her from HRE 1798 with Sophia, Radetzky, and Golitsin.

I find have an economy general very important in your line up. With 4-5 stars it reduce prices by a lot. Try to get the +6 guns. Even a 1 star general with 2 +6 guns can make big shoots This is me beast

I have some crappy generals, which I use wisely and conservatively.

i play a lot with a princess-squad (no Victoria or Lan). I upgraded Fatimah to 5-star cavalry and trade general. Sophia and Isabella: 5 star arty. Kate: 5-star navy. Sakurako: substitution-general whom I haven't trained yet. It can be great fun.

I tend to use 5-star Moreau with 2 times +6 artillery powder. Moreau has excellent and focused artillery skills. I'm loving it.

She isn't good at anything. In my opinion, she is the worst princess in the game.

She can do a little bit of infantry and cavalry but good at nothing. So if you have limited general slots, I do not recommend her.
