I have 3 cavalry generals: Murat, Lasalle and Lan Lasalle is better but a bit boring. When passing the campaigns for the first time I was using Murat and Lasalle. Now I prefer to use Murat and Lan. Murat is awaresome, but with specific purposes on the map. That's of course in case we are speaking about the generals regardless tier 2-3

Couldn’t choose between Lasalle and Murat. Eventually bought them both

I have neither Lasalle nor Murat so I use Lan and Ney. I also have Berthier but he still needs to learn many things from instructor Agha. Maybe, I use Sakurako as my third cavalry general for now.

These two are my best generals. My Isabela is not bad either but doesn't look as impressive and for some reason, artillery nobility rises much slower. I don't spend money though so can't get Moreau or Surorov. Pity, i want them both!

I usually use artillery to destroy the city, not capture it.

In fact, nobility is gained from capturing a city or from killing a unit. War rank is gained only from damage dealt.
When a general is equipped with Crown, there is probably 3 nobility points for killing a unit, and 8-9 points from capturing a city.
Without Crown it is much less.

I've noticed two things about Nobility... 1) It rises faster playing campaigns over conquests. 2) The higher the rank(?) number is, the slower it (nobility) rises. I have Sophia at 150/6 and have played at least 6 conquests and replayed a few campaigns and the scale has barely moved.

I use the amount of medals needed for an upgrade as hint for how far I am.
