This thread is for discussing the 6 Troops you load into an army set for attacking or maybe capture or more of defense-oriented. Please specify which era rank for the troops and don't include your generals either brought from the taverns or IAPs. Anyone can build a dream team with uber-OP-generals, but can you create the best team of 6 ordinary troopers? *special troops from certain nations are acceptable, within reason... (different nations need to be within maybe 4 cities reach or less from each other, because it's difficult and unrealistic - not to mention pointless - to recruit some infantry from Peru, and artillery from China, and archers from England). Singlemalt , NetherFreek ... should this be included into the guide list? It may be very useful.

Standard team I tends to use for most of the time:
(I'm listing from a China start because I haven't played any other and I'm still in progress with my first one)
1st age - Ancient Age - 1 to 2 rams 2 to 3 bowmen 2 horsemen/warriors (I don't really like the limited range of rams but they're a necessary evil without another option available yet)
2nd age - Medieval Age - 2 Fire Dragons (basilica is kinda okay if I don't have Fire Dragons) 2 Marksmen 2 Calvary/Spearmen
3rd age - Empire Age - 2 Catapults 1 to 2 Crossbowmen (or Chu-ko-nu, nice!) 2 to 3 Knights/Swordsmen (This is where I abuse my hex-range capabilities hard against the AI in my favor)
4th age - Discovery Age 2 Catapults 1 to 2 Riflemen 2 to 3 Dragoons/Musketeers (Very similar to the 3rd age army, just more OP stats vs lower age enemies)
I try to recruit each type from one single city and send it forward to the front lines and as you can see, to me... calvary and infantry do have their uses, but I use them mainly as meatshields. I'm sure someone else has a great way of using units differently than me.

I don't have a fixed combination, but if I don't have a general I try to have 2 siege equipment. In Gunpowder and Industrial Age 2 cannons/artillary is a must. If you can get a good artillary general (about 4000 silver) you don't need any other troop.

Good idea Desophaeus ! 2 be honnest its way smarter to use in classical and medieval age the first 10 rounds just on eqch front 1 of your general to win eqch turn a city.. in the end game just put 1-2 tavern general in your team and just focus on the capitals.. this gives you <30 turn win. In empire you have to combine for example an artillery general with a strong inf/cav general and you can sweep around. But if you dont want to or want to use more fronts indeed you can think of attacking without generals. Still I advice you tonfirst let them attack you so you damaged their army. Attacking wiyh the same age army as yor enemy and their defense is >3 it will be often a defeat, because you loose to much hp against troops and def buidlings. At least 2 artillery units are needed which results in only 4 units fighting 6 defenders. Only way to win this is to use 2-hex units smart. Let archers attack cavalery, cavelery attack inf, and inf attack archery. You can see what kind of army the enemy has so you can choose in front.

Singlemalt Deffending is easier than attacking , you have more attacming units and if you have archers then you can shoot enemies behind walls, that is what I have done against England, they attacked me in Brussles. But I had often a army 1-2 Cav/Inf, 2 Ranged and 2 Siege

If i plan out attack than my typical unit choice would be. Attacking 2 archers 2 Inf 2 Siege
Sometimes if the enemy is using much infantry i switch the cavalry
Defending 3 archers 3 inf
Of course due to time, coins, wanting to take opportunity I sometime attack with less units or am heavy on a single type of unit
