THE BEGINNING:
EW5E released just some time ago, and it took most of the community by shock, seeing as the base design and mechanics were somewhat totally changed or removed.
No updates were announced so far but as far as we know the game is set to expand and fully release in a while!
FEATURES:
Some new things got implemented into the game, such as the 'Empire' mode which is a somewhat persistent way of unlocking new generals, princesses and equipment.
Partly revamped conquest mode! By this i mean the adding of cities as a means of moving across the board.
'Unique' units that are available to certain countries in certain time periods(eras).
A different way of customising and implementing gear.
THE '+' SIDE:
A EW title finally moved past the reskined unit formula by adding more unique units and features, which is pleasant to see!
The Empire mode is a marvellous collection of 'mini games', conquering and gaining favour from historic figures which will result in them becoming your generals(same goes for princesse), defensive missions, invasions and so on.
Resources are diverse and spread across areas in which they were common to see, adding a little more accuracy to the game!
Upgradable general abilities, and types of units that they accompany!
THE '-' SIDE:
Okay, this is where the rant begins, I'll try to keep it under control but these issues are possibly what determines how the playerbase actually reacts to the game!
Geographical accuracy, now, this is hardly an issue, some displaced cities is nothing to stress about and it'll probably get patched right away!(Same goes for grammatical errors)
The conquest mode, which allows you to start a 'campaign' from one of 6 ages(eras), this segment of the game is broken to a high degree and here's why:
-Going as Byzantine to the Industrial Age has to be one of the worst things I've done, and more so because it's inaccurate, not only that but it limits the country to basic units in the later stages of the game, thus making it kinda stupid. Following that is the map which stays the same through all periods of time, each city has a sticky name to it that won't go away even if it was impossible for it to exist in that period?!
-Generals, oh boy, look, i love the whole bunch of them, but i thinks it's crucial to limit the period in which they can exist, by this i mean that Cesar can't charge at musketeers with his legionaries. It's hilarious and just wrong. As a fallow up to this part i have to mention something funny, and that's Beowolf and Robin Hood as generals, that's something that has to be dealt with immediately as it kinda *Auto Corrected*s on their previous games that had genuine commanders/generals in them.
Equipment wise, the whole 'Odin' set and stuff like that is okay, as gear in that time period got linked to divine powers so legends like that are something that could be looked past(possibly for now).
The movement, camping wise, it's completely scripted and you can only win by going through a specific path. Map wise, small, it feels claustrophobic and just jam packed, it needs more space and less stuff/Same thing goes for city designs(defenses as well).
The movement in conquest mode is awful, it's odd and limiting, predetermined paths to cities kinda kill the whole freedom of conquest mode and often do you more harm than good(sadly)
+a few more issues that aren't as important as these.
THE FIX:
Well, design wise it doesn't matter, the key is presentation and gameplay, and it can be achieved by:
Capping conquest mode to it's given time period(while providing cities and Empires that existed in the period)
Capping the use of generals to periods that are native to them. This would by far reduce the arcade effect that's currently present.
Fixing up the unit pool, it should consist of multiple unique units per Empire/nation aside from the basic pool of troops.
Adding more unique features to troops. By this I'm referring to their abilities(example: Cavalry can attacks again after every kill)
Fixing the architecture on defenses, which is also crucial to the way the game presents itself. Example, the Chinese defenses are the same as any else(design wise). What I'm proposing is the adding of unique styles.
+This also counts towards each period(era) having designs/styles that are native to them(example: Medieval-Imperial period defenses sharing the near exact style of walls/towers.
+Adding more patterns for defense based on the patterns used in the given period/era.
Fixing up the movement in conquest mode. For now it's highly limiting, what i propose is dividing the map into regions instead of cities.
+Expanding battle maps and
un-clustering them
+Un-scripting the camping and somewhat adding more freedom and possibilities
Improving the historical accuracy of the game by removing certain generals from certain periods or campaigns thus increasing the game experience.
THE END:
That's about it, and pretty much covers everything i wanted to say, I'm hoping you'll leave your opinion or suggestion and try to expand this thread even more!
