What's your overall favorite 8 general group? And also, what would be the best 8 General group?

Right now I use Genghis, Saladin, Alexander, Caesar, Robin, Motezuma, Cleopatra, and Barbarossa.
The only ones I plan to keep to endgame are Genghis, Saladin, Caesar, and Alexander. I am looking for replacements for the others when I have the medals.

I think everyone would say, just get all Gold generals.  I will analyse the one I would pick if I have enough Medal. I think there will be more generals unlocked later as I haven't build all building yet and I also haven't finished the campaign.
1. Inf:-Alexander: (Free gold general) +Formation Master: Hit 3 enemies. +Spy: Decrease enemy's defense by 50%.
+Attack Master: Bonus attack.
*Good stats, great damage, he will help you rush campaign to get 3 star if you have good enough items.
-Ceasar: (2900 Medals- Gold)
+Cure Master: Heal units.
+Braveness: Prevent counter.
+Defense Master: Bonus defense.
*He is the best meat shield. You can attack enemy without worrying about counterattack. His 3rd skill also give him a defense bonus instead of hp bonus, which make his 1st skill much more useful.
Other choice:
-Licole: He is still the 3rd choice if you want more Inf. But he is not the only 4 star anymore.
2. Calvary:
-Suleiman: (3100 Medals- Gold) +Assault Master: Hit 3 enemies.
+Rumor: Cause chaos.
+Defense Master: Bonus defense.
*Run straigh to enemy line and cause chaos. He is also strong enough to tank few shots, he can buy enough times for other generals to finish your enemy off.
-Attila: (2250 Medals- Purple)
+Cavalry Commander: Bonus attack for nearby cavalry.
+Braveness: Prevent counter.
+Attack Master: Bonus atttack.
*He have every thing a cavalry general need. I prefer Assault Master but his 1st skill isn't really bad at all.
Other choice:
-Ghengis Khan: Similar to Attila but better stats. (1.99$)
-Saladin: If you don't have enough medals for Attila.
3. Ranger:
-Nobunaga: (2300 Medals- Purple)
+Sniper Master: Attack 3 enemies.
+Leadership: Reduce enemy attack.
+Spy: Reduce enemy defense.
*Good to apply debuff on enemy. His dame is also no joke.
-Catherine: (Buy with gold)
+Sniper Expert: Attack 2 enemies.
+General: Bonus hp.
+Shelter: Reduce damage from artillery.
*Start at 4 start Spend gold on her is much better than spend Medal on Robin Hood.
Other choice:
-Washington: One of few 4 stars general now. He is also gold, which mean he have good stats. I still don't like a defensive ranger general. (5.99$)
-Yi Sun-sin: Good on water, situation general. (2200 Medals)
4. Artillery:
-Li Shimin: (3000 Medals - Gold)
+Explosive Master: Deal AoE dame.
+Logistics: Heal when kill enemy.
+Marshal: Bonus HP.
*Defensive artillery general. Not my style. But he is gold, which mean he have good stats. He is still a great choice to farm conquest.
-Koxinga: (2700 Medals - Purple)
+Explosive Expert: Deal AoE dame.
+Navigation: Cause chaos if attacking at sea.
+Marshal: Bonus HP.
*Another defensive and quite situation general. But at least he have good stats.
Other choice:
-Napoleon: Perfect generals.  (9.99$) Before I see his cost.
-Cleopatra: Better skill than Koxinga but worse stats. (Free Blue general)
I will update this will better generals if I unlock them.
*Update 2016.12.14: (Will have other update if I found new General in Gunpowder Age.)
+Add Catherina.
+Add Koxinga.
+Remove few General that is not as good as new generals.

My current main generals are Alexander, Hannibal, Huo Qubing, Moctezuma, and Cleopatra. I totally agree with burningwings comment above with a bit exception about cavalry skills. I feel that Assault Master is a bit difficult to use (getting enemies in line) while I think a (almost) permanent attack buff from Cavalry Commander skill at lvMax is no joke. Imagine, having Genghis Khan and Suleiman go together with Attila with the skill activated can be scary. Well... that's just my imagination... I am no where near that point yet... so don't take me seriously now. Anyway, for my ultimate general group, it depends on what I am doing. If I play conquest where I have to fight many weak enemies over and over then I prefer generals with skills that allow them to easily stay alive (e.g. Logistics). This is crucial because I can just auto play most of the fights and it saves me a lot of time. But if my goal is to progress through tough campaign missions then I might want skills that help me fight strong enemy generals (Braveness, Leader, Spy, etc). So my choices would be generals such as Attila, Alexander, Nobunaga, etc. |

My Favorite is Ceaser and Li Shimin. Ceaser because hes a great infantry general and Shimin because hes a great fort buster the bad thing about Shimin is hes vulnerble to attakcs that are not ranged i wish the Chinese dragon had 1-1 attack so i could counterattack. kanue, |

Unintentionally, I've built myself a very infantry heavy lineup (not that i think it's a good idea)
My generals are Caesar, Alexander, Barbarossa, Saladin, Robin hood, Moctezuma, Cleopetra
The plan is to use the 3 heavyweight infantry generals to lower enemy's health and use Saladin to cleanup. However, i plan on replacing Alexander with a cavalry general in the future and change both archers and Cleopatra since they're crap. However, we're not at endgame yet so i'm still waiting for better generals to come out. As you can see, only general I've bought is Caesar as i judge he's the top endgame infantry general with really nice skill for a tank.
