Just win? Yes. All 5 stars? At least now no.

The additional types are so important? Or maybe,no one really tried it without.

hmm. I know some people much more skilled than I have completed certain very difficult things without generals, but still I doubt you can complete EW4 with no generals. It seems way too hard. there comes a point where i've been defeated with generals, let alone getting 5 stars. (keep trying and get stronger and I get 5 stars of course)
there is also, that if you complete every campaign with 5 stars, you get a total of 6 emblems to use in store. but its not like you are going to use any general you buy after completing everything.
if only there were some one star gens that you could not see or looked like identical soldiers, to allow you to win with only little grenadiers. unfortunately the Native Americans who double as North africans? don't count.

You have 4 emblems at the end if you aren't buying any, Coalition, HRE and RoA don't give emblems.

As I said, some people have completed amazing things without generals, cough cough south korea 1960 cough cough, and now we can add the entirety of EW4 to the list.
So HRE DOESN'T give you a royal emblem? Darn, I was upset when my nearly perfect score lost me an emblem (I thought you only needed 4s that early) and now you tell me it was over nothing. Now It doesn't matter, having Suvorov as eye-candy is impossible anyway.
We see why you get 176 upvotes, and me 5.

And simultaneously, you will be able to do things like win without generals

I doubt it for the later campaigns but conquest is pretty easy, I managed to win Wallachia 1815 with no generals so make of that what you will

When you see what ordinary units can sometimes do when the random attack rolls are in your favour, you know that it can be done without generals. But IMHO you need a certain mindset, skill in deciding what to attack with whom, a LOT of time, and a LOT of patience for save/load for virtually EVERY attack you make with EVERY unit.
