Hmm. Arnold has the maximum 5 trading stars, which is great. Must be fairly cheap, as he is in 1st tier and so far only general I have bought on my second account. He only has 3 infantry stars and no movement stars, but that's not what I bought him for. his Spy is a good skill though. since he has full trading he is probably the best cheap one. In Training camp forum, Picard has a guide for playing the game with 4 generals, and he suggests Arnold so I probably made the right choice. This is his first 3 steps, note however he called this his section for elite players, while he does not mention Arnold when advising beginners. 1. Dumouriez 2. Play for Sophia. I recommend France or GB 1798 3. Arnold Read more: european-war-4.boards.net/thread/4518/4-generals-walkthrough#ixzz4QwgnxQTq

Hmm, well that's fair. I should have got a fighter first for my second play through-Kutaisov is good. I fed him to Sophia multiple times Since he lost all his upgrades when he showed up again I'm pretty sure the academy abuses its generals. However, I think Arnold is the best in terms of the exact question asked. I enjoy buying items for equal to selling, and picked him when I saw him. You know how long it can take to refresh the academy. First play through I played a long time until I gave Sophia 5 trading stars (don't know if that's bad or not)

If he isn't, it is not time for items yet.

Arnold can be helpful, but the 2 items you buy in early game (snare drum and war horse) are in missions with provided 3* merchants (adequate)
