I figured as much. I know I will need August eventually, but I am not quite sure what the best time to buy him is or why. Which princess is the economic expert, again? I need to wait for her, don't I? Graham's mix of skills is potentially interesting - it seems to advertise him as more than a one-trick pony - but the general feeling I get from reading posts in all three subthreads is that princess-chasing especially is a process biased towards cavalrymen (or women) and artillerists. So in the long term it seems that infantry skills are de-emphasised (except perhaps in campaign mode, where the units you start with are chosen for you and you want as many generals in the field as possible), and Graham's extra cost is not justified (though I would love to know what "infantry tactics" is supposed to do). I am pretty sure there are cheaper trade trainers out there than August. The econ expert is fatimah but i suggest you use trainers on isabela as fatimah isn't a keeper and that noth have three trade stars. Cavalry and artillery are better than infantry. Though they all have similar output, cavalry is faster and artillery can outrange infantry. Infantry tactics is a skill that I think raises the minimum damage a bit. Nothing outclasses Dobeln, the immortal.

Nope. If I restart, I lose Sophia. I pulled off an absolute miracle (for a newbie with poor generals) to come in under 70 moves with the right amount of resources. Not going through that again. She stays. I've added about 350 medals in a couple of days with the grind save I've got, and working my way through it is a pleasure. I can do this forever and a day, and having a good general or two under my belt is only going to help more. The real question is who I get first - I can have Kutaisov now, but between Sophia and Carteaux I have artillery sorted out for the time being, whereas grinding out an extra fifty medals to get Dumouriez is no sweat, and he would have double the stars of my current cavalry general. If I were doing this on a 999-turn platform and heading for a grinding game, I would seriously consider August I - he would save me a lot of money in a long-haul scenario - but economics isn't a high priority right now; I can get him later. 1.) You are not a newbie anymore and if you restart, you won't have to deal with the poor generals again. You can get Sophia easily, if you find it hard, use tavern gens. Resources can be sorted out by a good trade gen. 2.)I wouldn't exactly say your artillery is sorted. An un-regrouped sophia is no better than Sockolnicki.(i think that's how to spell his name) It's your choice but just giving my opinion as a fan of restarting.

Update: I did a bit more grinding and got Dumouriez. As already stated, with two generals currently weighted towards artillery and my cavalry a bit on the weak side (noob mistake, as was Carteaux; won't happen again), he was the logical choice. Only 410 medals to go and then I can get Kutaisov. I would like to know, purely out of interest, if anyone thinks they could have made a case for August or Graham, and if so why. August is a Business trainer, but he is unneeded at the moment. Graham is stupidly overpriced I know this is a bit derailing, but how expensive is Graham

2.)I wouldn't exactly say your artillery is sorted. An un-regrouped sophia is no better than Sockolnicki. This may be true, but as soon as I've done a fair bit more grinding, I'm going to regroup either or both of Carteaux and Konopka into her to boost her rank and nobility a little, and that will open up a space for Kutaisov. I'll use him for a while, then regroup him into Sophia. I already stated that I took the plunge and bought Dumouriez - initial experiment suggests he's pretty lethal, BUT in his just-bought state he is weak with regard to taking damage and needs either grinding or regrouping to boost him up & give him the stamina he needs to keep good health in multiple battles. TK421, oh yeah, Dobeln on a double infantry machine gun is a joy to behold. Been there, done that; almost guaranteed one-shot kill on light cavalry, especially when you've got a couple of other units flanking the stables so they come out with low morale.
