I currently have:
Konopka, 2 cav stars, rank 64, nobility 7, business 1, movement 1, skill "trench" Sophia, 2 cav stars, rank 65, nobility 7, plus all her usual start stats Dumouriez, 4 cav, 2 movement, rank 28, nobility 1 (I just bought him and haven't really had time to grind him much).
If i regroup Konopka into Dumouriez, the preview at the top left tells me Dumouriez' rank will rise to 64 and his nobility to 6 (blue bar 1/3 full).
If I regroup Konopka into Sophia, her rank will become 74 and her nobility 8.
If I regroup Dumouriez into Sophia right now, her rank perversely DROPS to 64 (just short of 65) and her nobility stays at 7, but she gains one cavalry star. Seeing as she is really an artillery specialist with a bias towards forts, this seems like a suboptimal thing to do.
I think the best thing to do may be to regroup Konopka into Dumouriez. This effectively transfers almost all the rank and nobility grind I did (and the medals I used, foolish me) into a cavalry general who is two stars stronger and has other skill benefits too. I almost always play strong nations anyway, so I can't have more than three generals in the field, and I might as well have the best.
Then I will have a spare spot for Kutaisov when I can afford him (currently at 178 medals out of 430 needed), and can regroup him into Sophia once he's earned his keep in the field.
(I also have Carteaux, but he is an artillerist and if I am going to regroup him, it should possibly be into Kutaisov once I get him, to boost Kutaisov's rank and nobility, then regroup Kutaisov into Sophia for artillery training.)

Well, who else do you have? Konopka into Dumouriez sounds right

Done.
I also accumulated a metric ****ton of medals and bought Kutaisov.
Now all I need to do is to work out whether to immediately regroup Carteaux into Kutaisov to build him up, or to run around with three artillery generals (and one cavalry) for a while and do it that way.
