I'm really struggling in the America campaigns. Would it be smart to unlock grenadiers or heavy cavalry?

To clarify for my own reference later, are you talking heavy long guns or the siege mortars? I have found the latter distinctly unhelpful, and not a patch on the rocket artillery; in any sort of artillery duel, they seem to inflict far too little damage for what they receive in return.

Heavy Artillery. Siege Artillery is only good for forts and cities

Heavy Arillery is better, at least in my opinion, than any other arty. Why? It can always retaliate.
