So I went back to my Holy Roman Empire game from which I won Sophia (which fortunately I had saved), and using said Sophia, plus Kutaisov and Dumouriez, who I'd picked up in the interim, I beat the AI and was offered this choice. Naturally I chose "Rule Europe" and was delighted to be rewarded with 400 years' rule... and Fatimah. YAY!
I had also saved this new game a few moves before the end, so I went back, killed the last enemy again, and was of course offered the same choice. Out of curiosity I of course chose "Challenge Asia"... for which I was given 50 years.
1) What is the full significance of choosing to challenge Asia?
2) Why only fifty years, and what do I have to do in order to increase it (and, I am assuming, stand a chance of winning Sakurako/Lan at some point)?

A moderate general overall, if you train her), and Lan (The best Cav general in the game). 2) A great many things go into years ruled, overall. Campaign stars play a major role in this, so try to get as many as you can (I'm currently going for Lan with 330). Resources are another major one. you need 9000+ish food and gold for Lan, and 3000+ish industry (Sakurako, obviously, takes less. Try America 1798, US, for her). Your personal rank/nobility in the stats screen play a role in years ruled, as well, and the generals you used also need a decent bit of the same.

Thanks, TK421 , Current stats: Overall Rank level forty (something illegible) 22524. Nobility level 52, 69,356. Campaign stars 62 (this needs work, but other things have grabbed my attention). I'm assuming you mean America 1775. I found it interesting that the achievement which got me 400 years in Europe only got me 50 in Asia. Perhaps in America it will count for more? Seems to me that Sophia and Fatimah are the low-hanging fruit, so to speak, and getting any further princesses is going to need a lot more work (and wins in America, likely as US or Britain).

You need more rank, I believe. Campaign becomes much easier once you get a decent line-up, too, so stars will come easily soon I do mean 1775...I make that mistake sometimes. LOL. I think "years ruled" is the same for the American conquests. America is just easier to rush due to the map size, and a distinct lack of amazing generals. US is better for 1775, Britain for 1812, just so you know. Which one you pick doesn't really matter, we just seem to have differing opinions on this subject here. Victoria and Lan do require a decent bit of work, though. So long as you meet the requirements above and finish within 30-ish turns, you'll do fine, given some decent generals and grinding

2) Why only fifty years, and what do I have to do in order to increase it (and, I am assuming, stand a chance of winning Sakurako/Lan at some point)? In answer to my own question... Looking at this thread, where someone else asks an identical question in a different context, it appears the definitive answer is "Campaign progress". I have my save point just before the successful conquest ends, so I shall try to win a few more battles in each of Coalition & Imperial Eagle then go back and see what changes.
