How I did it: I upgraded to Gunpowder Age, upgraded Attila, Washington and Li Shimin and after they increased in level, I just followed the obvious path with all heroes (first kill general on sea, then all land NW and proceed the wall of enemies, kill towncenter one and then towncenter two at SW). The trick / key was to mass-produce cheap enemies to slow down sea-enemies. Basically what Phil said

I tried landing en masse in the city, then advancing overland. That worked well, then I got zerg rushed by troops defending the last city. Any tips?

Send your strongest generals on land, and then send an artillery and someone to guard it over the sea. Have the two land after you've defeated the first group. Also take army production locations as quickly as possible.

Washington Saladin Genghis Li Shimin Nobunaga Barbarossa Lincoln Jhansi All in Discovery Age That's probably the problem... The Campaign is nearly 20x easier with Gunpowder Age

The Campaign is nearly 20x easier with Gunpowder Age Definitely, I struggled with Discovery Age Campaign while in Discovery Age, but as soon as I hit Gunpowder and began upgrading, it was super easy, and I'm just coasting through the Gunpowder Age Campaign now too. I think the balancing of the Discovery Age Campaign missions is off in comparison.

Has anyone beat it in discovery age? Not even 3*, but just beat it? I think it is possible... But the question is: what about development of skills of your generals? Nobunaga's Leadership and Spy, Barbarossa's Leadership, Washington's, Saladin's, Li Shimin's Logistics etc? For example, your team with Nobunaga's Leadership 6-7 and Spy 6-7 and without them are two different teams, belive me...

Genghis has lvl 9 Braveness, Nobunaga has lvl 3 Leadership and Spy

So the personal skills of your generals are sufficient for now (maybe Logistics lvl 5 will not hurt), but your team skills Leadership and Spy are almost non-existent. They are at the same time cheap and great. Upgrade Nobunaga's and Barbarossa's Leadership to lvl 7 and Nobunaga's Spy to lvl 6 and do not thank me:-) :-) :-)

Has anyone beat it in discovery age? Not even 3*, but just beat it? Yeah I beat this one when I was in Discovery Age, but I had a lot of skills in my generals. Nobunaga at level 6 for both, Alexander at spy level 6, Saladin with logistics 8, Caesar with cure level 6, bravery 5, cleopatra with rumor 6, inspire 6. Barbarossa with level 6 leadership.
