What i did was: 1st couple of turns: get 1st archer to defending town on the north west in mean time use him to hit horses. Use the artillery hitting archers and use the others to hold the offending units.
Get the archer on the island and let him catch the barrack of your allie. Put a barrack guy on it. Also get the range later on. In this way yiu cam build a meat sheeld to defend the twon center. By this you can after you did well and the enemy cant hit the town center get your generals away.
On the sea just kill. After this a strong horse general has to be killed. Use ur horse and archer generals.
After you killed him the time for attack is there. You dont need a general to defend towncenter since u have a sheeeld of meat.
Get the towncenter columbus from sea. Dont land Get the other units (at least 1 art, 1 arch, 1 inf and another to the most south landing spot and get urself throw the wall and full attck town center not attacking units while not needed
I got it this way finished

Hi all, I am a frequent visitor (WC3 + GoG2 and since a few weeks EW5) and finally decided to register and post on these forums. Two reasons for this: 1) Big thx for all your valuable information and help with all games!!!! (this does not only go to singlemalt, but to everyone here!) 2) I am finally stuck at some point where I need your help and this has to do with this mission. Generally I am stuck at Discovery Age and want to proceed to Gunpowder. Sadly I miss 300 literature, which I could partially get from the discovery age missions, but I cannot pass Nanyang battle, not even with your great guide(s). Could you give me some more tips? What I did: First try I landed on north west, proceeded to the middle base on land and then got killed at some point. Then I had the same idea as you had and tried to only defend top base with an Archer and kill the middle base from sea and proceed with the rest to the south island. After a fail again I closely followed your guide for about 15-20 tries, but I never managed to survive long enough in the south to be able to get to the towncenter which you have to kill at south west. As soon as I land, I get swarmed with thousends of units, even if I focus on middle town center (and Columbus) at the same time. My Generals for this mission: (all lvl 40, all 4 stars) - General (Skills)[Items] - Attila (2,10,1)[2x Paladin, 2x purple] - Alexander (1,1,1)[4x purple] - Washington (1,5,1)[1x purple, 3x blue] - Li Shimin (3,4,1)[2x purple, 2x blue] - Saladin (1,2,1)[2x purple, 2x blue] - Nobunaga (3,6,4)[1x purple, 3x blue] Reserve: - Catherine (1,1,1)[3x blue] - Lincoln (1,1,1)[1x blue] (only lvl 35) I have no idea how to proceed or what setup to change. Maybe I should swap items or spendt my last available medals (~500) on some specific skills? I would not ask, if I couldnt solve this on my own Best regards, Tobias

I think your main generals are stronger then mine at the point i got this. Only difference is I used a second strong artillery... maybe you should not use saladin since he is killed easily? Change this for an art general?

I would increase Saladin's Logistics and also give Washington, him and Alex some better items from the worse generals ( like Nobu. Li and to certain extent Attilla).
Note: I have completed this having a 5 star Saladin and Barbarossa and no bought generals or items mainly by focusing in landing ASAP and killing all the enemies in the land ( but you may to keep the archer somewhat close to the castle for when the cav generals goes for it)

Args. I have no second good arty general. Only the non-medal ones and not even the iap one. I am lacking good items, but yeah I should try some iterations.
Saladin dies too easily, yes.

I completed this without arty general.. I. This mission doesn't require one IMO. ( Unlike the red one from Columbus and maybe the first one for fast completion).

My biggest issue is the landing in the south. I get blocked by so many units, that I cannot proceed to the towncenter. Even if I kill middle town center + columbus at the same time.

Landing is not the worst. You will need to occupy the baracks and factories asap right after the landing otherwise You will be overwhelmed by the units spammed from there. In case You can not even land then it is time to leave it for now. Farm a bit, upgrade You generals (skills, items, xp etc.) In order to land easily You need to support Your tanks (preferably cavalry generals in order to kill several units blocking the landing) with strong archers who can damage those on the shore.

Before I tell you how I beat it, can someone tell me how to get Washington? I read about him but I must be mentally challenged because I can't find him.
What I did to beat it was put 50% Barricks princess at the start and pumped out a $50 warrior every turn as a meat shield so the AI would attack them instead of my generals. Then I saved the NW town and captured the barricks and range south of the wall to help relieve AI spamming. Then I systematically marched south ignoring the archer general that was occupied by my meat shield and finished the level.

Tap the plus sign next to the medals to see IAP.

On the empire and campaign mode screens, it shows the three IAP generals if you click on the + sign for buying medals, in the far-left corner. He costs around 9 dollars, so obviously only buy him if you think it worth it. I, for one, am sticking with free generals.

I was stuck also a pritty long period on this level. I see my generals were already partly lvl50, so i think I waited with this level and went on with grinding medals and getting enough stuff to upgrade first towards new age
