Here I am talking about the skills such as fireproof, economic expert, infantry trainer, etc. etc. etc. Is there a collated list of these somewhere, with a description of exactly what they do, how they affect output etc., after the fashion of the every-general analysis conducted by Jean-Luc Picard ? Such a list would ideally include those items which can be carried by generals that duplicate particular skills. If one does not exist, I would think about trying to build it.

Just search skill analysis in Headquarters. It's called "output formula and skill analysis".

There is a list of the skills and what they do, but no detailed analysis by senior players who've finished or mostly finished the game as to how useful or worthwhile they are, either individually or together with other skills. I suspect when Jean-Luc Picard has finished his all-generals/all-princesses analysis there will be a lot more data to pick over as regards which skills go best with what type of general (and each other). Given that some of them, e.g. "banner", require quite considerable cost in medals, I think this is vital for the newbie.

Maybe we could debate about some of the more controversial skills? E.g. Banner, Fireproof, Bugle vs Mass Fire etc.

Build a list of those that loves 'em, those that hates 'em, and the reasons why. Especially for those on 999 turn platforms, not everybody wants to run for all eight princesses as fast as possible; some of us just want to have fun and take their conquests slowly, and knowing how these skills work together is important to them for picking their generals as wisely as possible.

Can I start it off here? *fires starting gun* Banner is absolutely useless. Flags are expensive and have no effect on the general. I shouldn't have to pay for such a useless trait. My priority as a commander would be to keep me generals hale and hearty, their deaths would emasculate my forces. At this point, the temporary buffs granted to some N00BY regular troops would have no effect on my ability to hold the line. It's burning the forest to save the trees.

In the endgame, when you have lots of medals to play around with, banners can be useful.

Well, an artillery general will routinely have units around him/her, so it can be a bonus. When having generals operate in pairs, as I sometimes do, it can also be a nice bonus. I will admit, it is useless except in endgame

Im not sure banner is ever useful, but I never got past American campaign Yeah sure, how about a poll: Bugle vs mass fire. Bugle is great and all, but I will be devastated if Mass Fire loses. BTW, one plus with mass fire, is it means snare drums can be used for other generals, this is why I prefer Dobeln to oudinot. Assuming there is a shortage of snare drums after all, maybe it is possible to gather enough for everyone. As for fireproof, I am definitely most ignorant on the pros and cons of this skill. However, my feeling from playing Easy-tech games is.....Is fire even that big a threat? I haven't crunched numbers but it does not seem like so big a deal. Edit: if I was serious, I like Dobeln more as a cool guy. However, Oudinot is nothing shabby, but I don't consider them equal in that regard.

I will admit, it is useless except in endgame I can see it being very useful in a grinding scenario. Just that little extra boost to attack or even to defence (e.g. in the Trafalgar grind, which makes use of this by its very nature) could make the difference between getting a medal or not, or your units lasting a little longer. Statistically, it's going to add up. Except of course by the time you've got enough medals to splash on flags, you've probably got your grinding methods well sorted out...

Dobeln is also my first pick comparing to Oudinot because Mass Fire > Formation.

I'm pretty sure it does around or less than 10 damage per turn, meaning you only care if it's something like Agha on a single formation militia.

If you are a marshal on an ironclad it can be annoying.

In the endgame, when you have lots of medals to play around with, banners can be useful. I take it that you've had experience with using them? Please share.
