The Battle of Gettysburg July 1st - 3rd, 1863 Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
Major Union Generals: Meade, Hancock, Slocum, Kilpatrick, Howard, Humphreys, Birney, Doubleday, Reynolds, Buford and Chamberlain (Famous after the battle) Major Confederate Generals: Lee, Longstreet, Stuart, Hill, Hood, Pickett, Ewell, Heth, Johnson, Armistead, and Pettigrew. In reality there are even more generals, near to 30 I believe, but to list them all would be boring...

Pre-Battle:Jeb Stuart, who is the leading scout general for the South, goes really far North. He leaves the South blind to the Northern army movements. Originally the South was going to cut D.C. off from the rest of the Union, which would let the South win. Robert E. Lee changes the objective to destroying the army of the Potomac, so they couldn't follow them to Washington. George Meade has just received command of the Army of the Potomac. Stonewall Jackson had died less than a month before the battle, so General Robert E. Lee had to reorder the Corps. The South was looking to get British support and needed a strong victory to do that.

1st Day: -Buford establishes high ground for the North -Stuart is still missing, so the South doesn't know what to expect in the battle -Ewell and Heth both have victory, which pushes the North back. -Ewell doesn't claim the ground he could've taken (it was high ground...) -North retreats back to Cemetery Hill -Considered a victory for the South -The South took Gettysburg -Longstreet suggests to abandon the battlefield and go for Washington. Lee argues that will lower morale and that the enemy is where they are.

Great job so far. I'm assuming you will be making the second and third day? Yes I will do the 2nd tomorrow and the 3rd on Tuesday. I am going to eventually add maps and a short lament for Armistead. I am also going to include a couple short general descriptors.

2nd Day: -Union formed a hook shape defense line in the High grounds of Culp's Hill, the line stretched to Little Round Top -Stuart only shows up at the very end of the day -Ewell attacked Union right flank and still doesn't recover high ground -A.P. Hill launched a frontal assault near Seminary Ridge -Hood's men suffered high casualties at Devil's Den and attempted to flank the Union at Little Round Top and claim victory -Colonel Chamberlain stretched his line in a 90° angle along Little Round Top to secure the left flank -Chamberlain runs out of ammunition and orders his army to form a 180° angle, using bayonets, and charge downhill. This destroys the chance of the Confederates winning for the day. -Union victory: Over 18,000 dead from both sides
