Update - Gunboat War (Coalition) turns out to have been the ideal campaign for which this item was designed: rocket artillery making an amphibious landing against opposition from enemy shore batteries. I don't know what I'd have done without Sophia in that situation. With armoured carrier and 4+ powder she flattened every shore battery she could reach and also made reducing the artillery battery just south of Christiania an easy task.
In the end, once she was ashore I could swap out Armoured Carrier for snare drum/4+ powder or movement items (war horse, horse artillery) as appropriate, and managed to flatten Copenhagen just in time for Dobeln to capture it in the AI phase and give me a 5* victory (a rare example of an ally being useful for once), but having it in the water movement phase did a lot to help me shoot my way past seaborne or coastal enemies in fixed defensive positions, which is exactly what I had intended it to be for.
