So which of these two are better? They both appear to be good, Alex has more attack but Richard lasts longer due to logistics you thoughts on who is better guys?

I say Richard is better than alexander. This is because at 6 stars richard gains much better skills than alexander Richard gains mass fire and -50% archer damage Alexander gains fury and +100% fort damage.
Mass fire and Fury both give +50% damage but fury only activates on enemy turn so Mass fire is clearly better. Taking less archer damage is really helpful because it means Richard can absorb the damage from archers and stay alive easier.

Richard. +50 all the time, better damage reduction, AND rumor AND logistics.

best75, I'm still wondering if fury stacks. I mean when Alex get hit by enemy 2 times in a turn will it increase to 100% or stay 50%?

Early game Alexander is really good due to him being free and I'm still using him in the empire era. I would recommend him up until you can afford to get Richard upgraded.

Since you have both, Richard is clearly better. The main benefit of Alex is that he starts off free, but you say you have Richard at the same level.
I'm going to get Richard as well, but I will keep using Alex. When he hits level 6, I will replace Bismarck with him. While Phalanx is only half the fort damage of Bismarck, I imagine Alex's higher attack will make up for this.

Yes he does.. my Alex with ~800 attack deals about 1000 damage to towers just a bit less than a not very well euipped Bismarck

Personally, I haven't gotten Richard (now I'll work towards him though), but I like Alexander (mostly because of the phalanx) because when he did have phalanx, he was able to go single handedly, into a battle in conquest, and: breach the city by turn 2 or 3 (I have good boots, with a paladin sword, forgot the shield, and lucky crown), and destroy the city centre by turn 5, and he kills all the soldiers because hey just charge at him. Plus since he has so much health, for me, he can take down about a forth of the map before having to heal, but if he happens to arrive at a few level 3+ defense city, then about half because he hugs the wall.
